REFLECTION

After two years of pandemic we were not able to meet our pupils in teaching them face to
face. And now as we go back to our station to have an in-person teaching, we teachers meet a lot
of difficulties especially learning gaps in reading.
Literacy is one of the most fundamental skills a child can learn. Reading is the foundation
for all academic learning. Learning to read , write, count is crucial to a child’s success in school
and in latter life.
In this LAC Session we teachers revisited the Phil Iri Program which was already a
practice of the DepEd that were implemented ever since to measure students’ level of reading
skills. It was conducted at the opening of classes for us teachers to know the level of
comprehension of our learners and were able to make a plan or intervention to pupils who cannot
pass the test. Information gathered from the assessment can help classroom teachers design and
provide appropriate reading instruction for their student.
Attending this LAC Session help us remember on how to conduct the Phil Iri. The speaker
gave us different tools to conduct to our pupils and able to know the capacity and reading
performance in both English and Filipino languages in oral reading, silent reading and listening
comprehension of our learners.
Another topic we had was the implementation of 8 th week Curriculum for Grade 1 to 3
pupils because literacy improvement is one of the priorities of the DepEd. It is really a big help to
our teachers in primary grade to start again with the basic for our learners not to get traumatized
on the first day of class. It could be a good way to start to fill in the gaps among learners who
have difficulty in letter and number sense.
