 Protons positively charges subatomic particles located in the nucleus of an atom.

 Neutrons is neutrally charged subatomic particles located in the nucleus of an atom.
 Electrons is negatively charged subatomic particles located in orbitals surrounding the nucleus.
 Atomic mass is a weighted average of the number of neutrons and protons present for all
isotopes.
 Atomic number is a number of proton present in an atom.
 Element is a pure substance that cannot be broken down into a simpler substance by chemical
means.

How to find number of protons, neutrons

and electrons Atomic #- 8
Number of protons = Atomic number Atomic Mass- 15.999
Number of neutrons =Atomic Mass-Atomic Mass number-16
Number # of proton- 8
Number of electrons = Atomic Number # of neutron- 8
# of electron- 8

ACTIVITY 1. The atoms Family. Complete the following and find the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons.

ACTIVITY 2. Reflection
In your own understanding, why it is important to have a knowledge in finding the number of subatomic
particles of atom?
ACTIVITY 3. Draw an atomic structure.
Example
Atomic #- 8
Atomic Mass- 15.999
Mass number-16
# of proton- 8
# of neutron- 8
# of electron- 8

 Thermal energy- It is the energy possessed within the object or within the system due to the movement of
particles.
 Temperature- it refers to the relative hotness or coldness of an object.
 Thermometer-it is an instrument for measuring temperature.
 Heat-it is a form of energy that is transferred between two objects at different temperatures or simply
energy in transit.

Activity 1. Identify the heat transferred shown in each situation. Answer Conduction, convection, and
radiation.
1. Heating food in a microwave oven. 4. You feel the warmth of the fireplace.
2. The butter on the top of the pancake melted. 5. You got burned your tongue when the hot soup touched
it.
3. Your wrinkled shirt flatten out after ironing it.

ACTIVITY 2.
In your own understanding, why do we need to study the three method of heat transfer? And how do we
protect ourselves from burning from the sun?

ACTIVITY 3.
Draw an example of conduction, convection, and radiation.
