Project Components Project Outcomes
Component 1. Management of POPs in 1. Strengthened legislation and institutional
Waste Electrical and Electronics capacity in implementing PBDE action plan
Equipment (WEEE)
and Reduction and eventual elimination of
POPS- PBDE releases from WEEE to mitigate
their health impact
Component 2. Sound Management of
PCB – contaminated equipment, PCB
wastes and stockpiles from electric 2. PCB Management Plans of selected rural
cooperatives cooperatives effectively implemented

Component 3: Institutional 3. Increased capacity and awareness on

Strengthening, capacity building and sustainable and effective WEEE and PCB
awareness raising (Information, waste management by relevant stakeholders
Education and Communication)
4. Project and all stakeholders are able to
Component 4: Project monitoring and monitor and evaluate the project’s progress
evaluation allowing for the implementation of the
national action plans on POPs

3
Measurable Results in terms of POPs Reduction
600 tons of PCB oil and PCB contaminated equipment identified by
the Electric Cooperatives disposed in the Non Com POPs Facility in
Bataan (Total subsidy of $1.2M)

At least 1150 kg of PBDE disposed, coming from 50,000 CRT

monitors

Capacity for the treatment of at least 700 t/year of PCB

contaminated materials established

Capacity for the disposal of at least 300 tons/year of POP

contaminated E-waste components established

The project to ensure the safe disposal of around 225 tons of lead
containing glass
