A Potted History of Avoncroft Cricket Club

Avoncroft Cricket Club was founded in 1947 and has provided cricket to the local
community for players both young, not so young and spectators over this long period.

In its early years, Avoncroft was very much a ‘village club’, but this did not stop them
distinguishing themselves as worthy competitors in the National Village Trophy in the
1970’s as well as being formidable opposition to other local clubs.

The 1980’s saw the Club participating in the early years of Worcestershire League
Cricket, entering two teams.

The club currently runs 2 Saturday league sides who compete in the Worcestershire
County Cricket League and 1 Sunday side competing in the Worcestershire County
Sunday League as well as Under 8s, 9s, 11s and 12s junior sides. We also run a
midweek friendly programme of fixtures comprising a mix of adults and junior players.

In 2014 the club underwent a brand new revamped Pavilion project, creating the extra
space required for the club in order to grow. As part of this, the club can offer both our
pavilion and ground out to hire for a wide range of events. We have the facilities to
host charity fund raising events, quiz nights, presentation evenings, christenings,
birthdays, meetings, cricket matches plus many more events.
In 2016 the first team won the fair play award for the Worcestershire League.

Avoncroft Cricket Club is also a registered charity.

The following pages outline a range of sponsorship packages on offer.

Junior Cricket

Avoncroft Cricket Club has a thriving youth section, and we are currently offering
coaching for children from the ages of 5-12.

For ages 5-9 (reception to Year 4), the club offers two coaching opportunities:

- We are proud to be part of the first wave of clubs providing All-Stars cricket.
This is a national initiative developed and run by the ECB (England Cricket Board) and
is aimed at providing children aged 5-8 with a great first experience in cricket. For
more information on All Stars cricket for 5-8 year olds.

- The club also runs its own club coaching for children aged 5-9 on Friday
evenings, and takes part in softball cricket festivals at Under 8 and Under 9 age
groups. This coaching provides a fun introduction into cricket in a safe and relaxed
environment. We welcome boys and girls, with or without any previous experience,
and aim to develop in them a love of the game whilst beginning to introduce the basic
techniques and skills they will need if they choose to continue playing in the future.

For ages 10-12 (Years 5-7), the club offers coaching opportunities:

A coaching programme on Friday evenings. Again this is open to boys and girls, and
no previous cricketing experience is required. New members are encouraged to come
along on a Friday evening and join in. The club runs sides at Under 11 and Under 12
levels, with games on Sunday mornings and midweek evenings.
