Background of the Study

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the sustainability and environmental impact of hydroponic

farming methods, specifically focusing on water usage. This research is of paramount importance

due to the increasing concerns about water scarcity and the need for more sustainable agricultural

practices. Hydroponic farming has emerged as a potential solution, but its effectiveness

compared to traditional soil-based cultivation methods remains uncertain.

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1.) What is the average growth of Pechay (Brassica Rapa) under the hydroponics and soil-based
cultivation?
a.) Number of leaves
b.) Plant height
e.) Plant color

2.) Is there a significance difference in the growth of Pechay (Brassica Rapa) when cultivated in
soil-based conditions compared to water-based conditions?
3.) What are the key factors and optimal conditions that influence the growth and development of
Pechay (Brassica Rapa) in Hydroponic system?

Scope and Delimitation

This study mainly focuses on the effects of both hydroponics and traditional soil growing

based on the number of true leaves, height, wet weight, dry weight, and moisture content of the

test organism. Pechay (Brassica Rapa) shall only be used as the test organism for both methods

of plant growing for its use as a model organism in other studies. The study is limited only to the

growth of Pechay on hydroponics and soil. This study shall also be observed for a maximum of

forty-five (45) days, and some equipment used are recycled, collected locally or at home, and

improvised.

Significance of the Study

The result of this study can provide imformation in growing Petchay(Brassica Rapa) in

hydroponic system will harvest within (45) days, and promote livelihood. It will not only boost

the agricultural sector but also the country's economic growth by supporting local farmers and

citizens, increasing exports, increasing currency rates, and providing numerous benefits,

particularly to the lower sector of the economy.

Specifically, the findings of this study will be beneficial to the following:

The Environment
Local Farmers

Local farmers benefit from hydroponic systems by increasing yields, improving water

efficiency, effectively utilizing space, providing crop diversity, reducing environmental impact,

ensuring consistent quality, enabling year-round cultivation, promoting local produce, and

creating educational opportunities. These benefits can improve the economic prospects and long-

term viability of local farming enterprises.

Citizens

The result of this study will benefit the citizen since hydroponics in pechay cultivation

directly contributes to higher food quality for citizens. It ensures optimal nutrient delivery,

enhances food safety, promotes consistent crop quality, and reduces chemical residues. As a

result, citizens can savor fresh and nutritious pechay that not only tastes better but also meets

stringent quality and safety standards.

Economy

The adoption of hydroponics in pechay (Brassica Rapa) farming can stimulate economic

growth. The country could become a significant global supplier of pechay at competitive prices,

benefiting both citizens and the agricultural sector. This approach promises profitable income

opportunities for local farmers, affordability for consumers, and a consistent supply of resources

to support various economic needs.
