ABSTRACT

Traditional chain-driven bicycles have been widely used for decades, providing efficient power
transmission and reliable performance. However, chain drives come with inherent drawbacks
such as maintenance requirements, susceptibility to dirt and weather conditions, and potential
for mechanical inefficiencies, this can be overcome by introducing a shaft drive. A shaft-driven
bicycle uses a drive shaft instead of a chain to transmit power from the pedals to the wheel
arrangement. It employs to increase durability of bicycle with the help of shaft drive, reduce
maintenance cost of bicycle and increase power transmission efficiency of the bicycle and
makes system more reliable.
It’s also includes the design and fabrication of shaft drive. In this project two bevel gears are
used, one from the rear wheel and one from the pedal side.
The shaft drive has two gears mounted one at each end.
The used of bevel gears allows the axis of the drive torque from the pedals to be turned through
90 degrees. The bevel gear at the rear end of drive shaft then meshes with a bevel gear rear
wheel hub where the rear wheel, the rear flywheel unit would be on a conventional bicycle and
cancelling out the first drive torque change of axis.
