Lesson Plan: Introduction to Basic Greetings and Conversations

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to greet each other and
engage in simple conversations using basic English greetings.

Duration: 60 minutes

Materials:

 Whiteboard and markers

 Flashcards with pictures of common greetings and expressions
 Handouts with sample conversations

Warm-up (5 minutes):

 Greet students as they enter the classroom using different greetings: "Hello,"
"Hi," "Good morning," "Good afternoon," etc.
 Ask students how they are feeling today and encourage them to respond
using simple words like "good," "happy," "tired," etc.

Introduction (10 minutes):

 Display flashcards with various greetings and expressions on the whiteboard.

 Go through each flashcard, saying the greeting out loud and having students
repeat after you.
 Explain the meanings and contexts of each greeting, using gestures and
examples to help students understand.

Vocabulary Building (15 minutes):

 Write down the greetings on the whiteboard along with their meanings.
 Have students practice pronouncing each greeting individually and as a
group.
 Introduce basic responses to greetings (e.g., "I'm fine," "How are you?") and
have students repeat these as well.

Role-Play Activity (20 minutes):

 Divide the students into pairs.

 Distribute handouts with sample conversations that use the greetings and
responses introduced earlier.
 Have each pair read and practice the conversations together, taking turns
using different roles.
 Circulate the classroom, providing assistance and feedback to individual pairs.

Group Discussion (5 minutes):

 Bring the class back together and ask a few pairs to perform their
conversations in front of the class.
 Encourage the students to pay attention and respond appropriately as if they
were having a real conversation.
 Facilitate a brief discussion about the importance of greetings in daily life and
how they can help build connections.

Wrap-up (5 minutes):

 Review the key greetings and responses learned during the lesson.
 Ask each student to share one thing they learned about greetings today.
 Remind the students to practice their new skills by greeting their friends and
family outside of the classroom.

Homework (Optional):

 Assign a simple homework task where students need to greet someone using
the new greetings they learned in a real-life situation and share their
experience in the next class.

Assessment:

 Observe students' participation in the role-play activity and their ability to use
the greetings and responses accurately.
 Evaluate their pronunciation and comprehension during group discussions.

Remember to adjust the pace and level of difficulty based on your students' progress
and comfort level. Adapt the lesson plan as needed to cater to their needs and
learning styles.
