ASCE Journal of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste

Special Issue on Behaviour of Geomaterials Subjected to Contamination Agents, and Its

Remediation and Immobilization Techniques

Guest Editor: Dr. Arvind Kumar Jha (email: jhaarvind@iitp.ac.in)

The aim of proposed special issue is to examine the physicochemical and geotechnical properties of geomaterials (soils
and waste /byproduct materials generated from industries, construction and demolition, mining, quarry of stone/marble,
etc.), and to investigate their potential subjected to varying contaminating agents such as acidic, alkaline, salt, metal
sulphates, acid mine drainage, hazardous landfill leachate, etc. Further, contamination of geomaterials usually affects
adversely on their properties, deterioration of construction projects, and eco-environmental issues. Various remediation
and immobilization techniques are adopted previously to mitigate the contamination problems of geomaterials. However,
most of the remediation and immobilization techniques seemed to be either uneconomical or augmenting more damage.
Therefore, understanding the behaviour of geomaterials upon contamination and finding out suitable cost-effective and
sustainable remediation and immobilization techniques are needed to deal with related problems.

Thus, the special issue by ASCE Journal of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste has been proposed on “Behavior of
Geomaterials Subjected to Contamination Agents and Its Remediation/Immobilization Techniques” to materialize the novel
and relevant findings and advancement in these domains. Researchers are cordially welcome to share recent research and
scientific findings/outcomes, ideas, approaches, numerical and analytical studies, state-of-the-art strategies, theories, case
studies, reviews, and practices to establish the suitable protocol and to investigate the novel, sustainable and eco-friendly
geomaterials for various geotechnical and civil engineering construction projects.
