CLASS NOTES

Time

Time is a period during which a certain event happens, has happened, or is

going to happen.

Time is measured in seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years.

There are other smaller units of time such as milliseconds and

microseconds.

The smallest time unit is 'Zeptosecond'.

1 minute = 60 seconds

1 hour = 60 minutes

1 day = 24 hours

Reading Time

We read time from a clock. A clock has numbers from 1 to 12 marked on it.

Each number denotes an hour.

There are two hands for a clock. The longer

needle is the minute hand and the shorter

needle is the hour hand. The combination

of the hour hand and minute hand together

give us the time. Some clocks have another

hand called the seconds hand.

The hour hand takes one hour to move from one number to the next

number.

The minute hand moves faster than the hour hand and takes 5 minutes to

move from one number to the next number.

The seconds hand moves the fastest and takes five seconds to move from

one number to the next number.

Telling Time to 5 Minutes

A clock has numbers from 1 to 12 marked on it. The tiny lines between every

number denote 1 minute. There are 5 minutes between any two numbers

of the clock. The minute starts with 0 at number 12 and the count goes till

59. In one hour, the minute hand goes once round the clock covering all the

60 divisions. Hence,

1 hour = 60 minutes

Here is a table that shows the minutes indicated by the numbers on a clock.

1 indicates 5 minutes
