1. Using both printed and electronics media, research on the current
relationship between China and the Philippines. Consider the economic,
political, and social factors. Discuss the impact of Chinese culture on
contemporary Philippine society and compare it with the impact of
Chinese culture on 19th century Philippines. (Use PDF file)

Between 1741 and 1898, Chinese mestizos gained notoriety,

especially as landlords and middlemen who wholesaled local goods and
foreign imports, though there were also mestizos in other professions.
The majority of today's top class is made up of mestizo descendants who
became well-known through commercial agriculture in the late Spanish
century. That the mestizo served as a catalyst for social reform
throughout the late-Spanish century since it was a marginal variable
unrelated to a hamlet or town. For this, the money market will need to be
expanded into certain regions of the Philippines. In certain regions, the
only people with capital were regional governors and mestizos. Another
important effect is the rise of the middle class as an economic force. Any
mestizo families discovered that, after they had accumulated a certain
sum of money, it was simpler to support their children's education. The
Philippine Revolution of 1896 was the true Filipinos' (Indios and
Chinese mestizos alike) decisive act of determination to assert their
unquestionable birthright to nationhood for themselves and future
generations. And this historic goal was successfully completed in large
part because to the Chinese Mestizos' patriotic awakening and complete
integration into the social, cultural, and economic fabric of the growing
Filipino nation-state. But today, Chinese people ran practically all of the
enterprises in the Philippines. Filipinos are outraged by the prospect of
war with China over the South China Sea and do not want to form an
alliance with them because they fear that doing so would give China
authority over the West Philippine Sea, especially given how close
President Duterte is to them.
