Lesson 4.3: Investigate transformations of Quadratics
Day 2
Learning Goals: I will learn:
- to graph y = a(x – h)2 + k applying transformations
- to determine the equation in the form y = a(x – h)2 + k

Practice:
Question 1
- Describe the transformation from the equation
- Sketch the graph of each parabola using transformations
- Label at least three points on the parabola.
a) y = x2 - 5
b) y = x2 + 3
c) y = (x – 8)2
d) y = (x + 3)2
Question 2

- Write an equation for the quadratic relation that results from each transformation.
- Graph each relation using the transformation

a) The graph of y = x2 is translated 6 units upward.

b) The graph of y = x2 is translated 4 units downward

c) The graph of y = x2 is translated 7 units to the left.

d) The graph of y = x2 is translated 5 units

Question 3

A parabola y = ax2 + k passes through the points (-1, 3) and (3, -13). Find the values of a and k.
