WHAT IS IT?
The most important concept to remember in engaging in physical activity is
the responsibility of an individual’s safety and the safety of others.
Most safety practices are common sense. Unfortunately, they can be
forgotten or overlooked unless individuals make safe practices a habit or an instinct.
If facilities are cared for and used well, they will have a longer shelf life. Others will
be able to benefit from their use. Conducting proper etiquette in the use of facilities
also ensures the safety of those who use them. The risks in using them are
minimized.
Before using a facility or equipment, the officers in charge would often teach
or inform the users on how to use them, including the proper etiquette. Thus, it is
important to always listen and follow their instructions. Examples of proper
etiquette and safety in the use of facilities and equipment that we could follow:

1. Take care in using facilities and equipment.

2. Only use equipment that you already know how to use; do not leave or pass
on equipment that is in complete dirty.
3. Be Alert and Aware in the training area.
4. In performing exercises and movement in general, practice good form first.
5. Bring back all equipment in place after use.
6. Do not hug the equipment.
7. Return the equipment properly or leave the venue clean.
-Do not monopolize the equipment. Allow everyone a fair use of the facilities.
8. Check Yourself- practice proper hygiene and care
-Take a bath or a deodorant if needed. Do not force yourself to engage in
physical activity if you are feeling sick
9. Do not loiter around the venue or hang on the equipment doing nothing.
10. Be nice, as a general rule.

WHAT’S MORE?

Dance Etiquette
Dance etiquette is the set of conventional rules that govern the social
behavior of social dance by its participants. Such rules include how the participants
should look and how they approach, dance with, and leave their partner. Etiquette
can vary in its specification and stringency between different styles of dance.

Dance Etiquette Guidelines

1. What to Wear

Dancing has its own culture. The more formal is the dance, the more formal
the outfit. Wear clothing that makes it easy and enjoyable to dance, both for yourself
and your partner.

2. Personal Grooming

Dancing is an activity where two people come in close contact. Before a dance:

 Take a shower and brush your teeth before going to a dance.

 Avoid eating foods that have onions or garlic and spicy foods before a dance
or lesson.
 Wear antiperspirant deodorant.
 It is a good idea to bring a hand towel with you so you can wipe off the
perspiration in between dances.
 Bring an extra shirt or two and change throughout the night.
 Drink plenty of fluids. Dancing can cause dehydration, which causes dry
mouth, and this can result in bad breath.

During a dance:

 Check your grooming periodically.

 During active dance sessions, freshen up and towel off periodically in the
bathroom.
 Gentlemen, you can carry an extra shirt with you to the dance, in case you
need a change.

3. Asking for a Dance

When asking for a dance, it is easiest to stay with traditional phrases:

 ``May I have this dance?''
 ``May I have this Waltz/Rumba/Foxtrot/etc.''
 ``Would you like to dance?''
 ``Care to dance?''
 ``Shall we dance?''

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED?

Activity 3. Synthesizing your Learning

Answer the following questions based on your learning. Write your answers on
a ½ crosswise yellow paper.
1. Why is etiquette important?

2. Why it is important to maintain Dance Etiquette?

WHAT CAN I DO?

Activity 4. Shall We?

In this activity, try to find/ select a partner (can be a family member), properly
dress for the dance, and practice proper etiquette and gestures in approach, during
and after the dance. Record your performance through video coverage and submit
your output to your teacher.
