QUESTION
 Give examples from daily life of each of the following: Positive reinforcement,
Negative reinforcement, Positive punishment and Negative punishment.

ANSWER
Positive Reinforcement
Example # 1:
If student of 7th class performed well in final examination and you gave him a bicycle then his
performance will increase for the next time and he will struggle more to attain good marks in his next grade
because he thinks reward will be greater this time.

Example # 2:
Usually children don’t study properly and not focuses on their study in their childhood because
they focus more on playing and enjoying things. When you tell them that you will play video game with him after
studying then he will study more quickly and properly because he will be amazed by knowing that he will have an
opportunity to play video game.
Negative Reinforcement
Example # 1:
Suppose you have a dog in your room and there is a child you want to play with him, he will not
come to you because he is afraid of that dog, but if you remove that dog from your room he will come to you and
play with you comfortably. This is an example of negative reinforcement, by removing some unpleasant stimulus
increases behavior or performance of response.

Example # 2:
When parents remove ban on mobile phones or computers for their children, this will increase
behavior of their children, they will be attracted towards their parents and they will show more respectful
behavior towards their parents.

Positive Punishment
Example # 1:
When children are addicted to fast food or junk food then suddenly you tell them to don’t eat
fast food because after eating this food you can’t be powerful like superman or spiderman, so as a result they will
avoid eating fast food or junk food which is dangerous for their health.

Example # 2:
If you are a businessman and your employees don’t work properly, you gave them some extra
tasks to do with their normal tasks as a punishment so as a result, next time they will avoid their laziness and will
do proper work with efficiency on time.

Negative Punishment
Example # 1:
When you restrict your children to less usage of mobile phone because their eye sight will be
damaged, then as a result their response will decrease and they will use mobile phone less, compared to they
used before.

Example # 2:
If parents took keys of bike from their adult child because they do one wheeling on bike, so as a
result their response of one wheeling on bike decreases. They will avoid one wheeling on bike because next time
they will not be able to ride on a bike.
