1.5 Factors in selecting proposed business.

MARKET RESEARCH
Based on extensive market research, we have determined that young adults between
the ages of 18 and 35 who enjoy savoury and spicy snacks with a local or regional
flair make a promising target market for kerepek ubi pedas basah. Customers in this
market segment value distinctive flavours, so they are open to the combination of
traditional flavours and a contemporary twist found in our product. Additionally, our
research shows that kerepek ubi pedas basah is consumed on a variety of
occasions, such as movie nights, social gatherings, and as a beverage's
accoutrement, with sales significantly increasing during festive seasons. Although
there are rivals in the market for spicy snacks, none provide a product quite like ours,
distinguished by its distinctive sweet potato base and robust spice.

Consumer price sensitivity varies, highlighting the value of providing various package
sizes and price points. A strong online presence will be essential in reaching a wider
audience given the rising trend of online food purchases. In addition, we are aware of
regional differences in spice preferences and have noted a desire for potential
product variants like milder or extra-spicy options. These insights will direct our
product development, marketing strategies, and overall business strategy, enabling
us to successfully adapt to our target market's changing preferences.

3.5 Copywriting of Soft Sell and Hard Sell

A soft sell is an advertising and sales strategy that uses tactful language and a
non-aggressive attitude. A soft sell is intended to prevent upsetting potential clients and
driving them away. Soft selling, a low-pressure, seductive, and covert sales method, may not
result in a sale the first time a product is given, but it helps to promote repeat business. For
this business, we use Instagram as the only medium for us to do soft selling in order to
promote our business.

Instagram has been used as it is easy for us to get potential customers to buy our product
and convenient for us to communicate with our customers. In our post, we use phrases such
as “Let’s start the countdown with us!”, “Something Big is coming!”, “The Day is coming!”,
and etc to attract our customer’s attention and make them wonder about the promotion or
products we offered. We also used copywriting, both for hard and soft selling, to advertise
our products.

A hard sell is a sales strategy or approach that uses particularly direct and demanding
language. A hard sell attempts to persuade a customer to make a quick purchase rather
than giving them time to consider their options and possibly decide to wait. Some sales
professionals believe it to be an aggressive, high-pressure strategy that has lost favour. In
this business project, we also use Instagram to sell our products and collect orders through
here or WhatsApp for faster reply and collecting orders. In our Instagram posts, we made
our own poster to exhibit our products at very cheap and affordable prices for students in
“Universiti Teknologi Malaysia”. In the poster, we put phrases like “Attention please,
“Kerepek Ubi Pedas Basah” is open for orders!”, “Our hot selling “Kerepek Ubi Pedas
Basah” is available to order!”, “Kerepek Ubi Pedas Basah” are ready for orders!” and etc in
order to run the business. We also share all our contact information in case the customers
have any questions or are interested in buying our products.

10.0 INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION

10.1 Reflection by Mohamad Shahirul Amin

Reflecting on my journey in preparing and selling kerepek ubi pedas basah for my
entrepreneurship course at UTMSPACE, I've gained valuable insights and experiences that
have enriched my understanding of business and entrepreneurship.

Firstly, I want to acknowledge that stepping into entrepreneurship, especially while working
full-time as an IT Assistant Officer in a government agency, was a challenging yet rewarding
experience. I had no prior entrepreneurial experience, but the course, led by Dr. Ramesh
Zaidi Rozan, provided me with the necessary knowledge and tools to embark on this
venture.

The decision to participate in part-time studies and choose the Entrepreneurship course
meant managing my time meticulously. Balancing work, study, and the Kerepek Ubi Pedas
Basah project demanded careful planning and prioritization. This experience has taught me
the importance of time management, discipline, and adaptability in pursuing entrepreneurial
endeavors alongside a full-time job.

The process of preparing the stock was particularly enlightening. Personally visiting the
processing factory to procure the kerepek ubi pedas basah stock not only gave me an
understanding of the supply chain but also underscored the significance of product quality
and sourcing. The month-long journey of procurement and distribution allowed me to
appreciate the effort required to maintain a steady supply and build customer relationships.

Furthermore, the collaboration with my coursemates and teamwork played a crucial role in
our project's success. Working together allowed us to pool our resources, share
responsibilities, and support each other in overcoming challenges. This collaboration
highlighted the importance of effective communication and collaboration in entrepreneurship.

I appreciate the guidance of Dr. Ramesh Zaidi Rozan (Mesh Sensei) and the support of my
coursemates, and I look forward to applying these lessons and experiences in future
entrepreneurial endeavors.

10.2 Reflection by Aisyah Umairah

First, I would like to thank Dr Ramesh for sharing his knowledge and techniques on
entrepreneurship skills and his insights based on his own experiences or other
entrepreneurs’ testimonies. His guidance was essential for our work. I was a bit nervous and
unsure about entrepreneurship at first because I did not have any family members or friends
who had their own business. Everything was new to me. I was not good at communication
skills and I lacked confidence in myself especially when I had to speak in front of people. I
knew this subject was not easy but I wanted to challenge myself. I never expected to learn
this but I have no regrets. Entrepreneurship taught me a lot of things.

Entrepreneurship is the process of creating, launching, and running a new business venture.
It involves identifying opportunities, taking risks, and overcoming challenges. I have gained
many valuable lessons from running our food business of Kerepek Ubi Pedas Basah, a
delicious snack that combines crispy potatoes, tangy tamarind, aromatic garlic and onion,
and spicy sauce. We encountered some obstacles and setbacks while working on this
assignment. For me, the most difficult challenge was to manage our time efficiently. Since
we are part-time students who have busy schedules with work, family, assignments and
classes, I had to organize and set deadlines for various parts of our assignment. To
overcome this issue, I organized a meeting through Zoom Meeting Online and made a
Google Drive folder and also Google Docs or Google Sheets of reports, deadlines and
requirements that we had to meet with the rubric given. With this, we managed to finish this
task and achieve our sales goal.

This assignment and the whole course of UBSS1032 have taught me a lot. I have learned
important skills such as team management and time management from this assignment,
which I hope to use in the future. I would like to express my gratitude again to Dr Ramesh for
being our lecturer for this course.

10.3 Reflection by Ooi Chew Sun

The success and final outcome of this assignment required a lot of guidance and assistance
from many people including Dr. Ramesh Zaidi Rozan. This is new to me and we are
extremely fortunate to have got this all along the completion of our assignment work.
Whatever we have done is only due to such guidance and assistance and we would not
forget to thank them.

We are really grateful because we managed to complete this assignment within the time
given by Dr. Ramesh Zaidi Rozan. This assignment cannot be complete without the effort
and co-operation from our group members. Group members Aisyah, Shahirul, Shangkari
and Shadaasaran. Last but not least, we would like to express our gratitude to our friends
and respondents for support and willingness to spend some time with us.

10.4 Reflection by Shadaasaran

First of all, I would like to say thank you to Dr Ramesh for sharing with us about your
experiences and your knowledge with us. There are a lot of things that I do not know about
this course and also I have zero knowledge in running the business. However, this
assignment had opened my eyes and exposed a new journey in my life.

To achieve success in their business venture, business people usually had to devote time,
and endure financial, physical, and emotional hardships. Entrepreneurship demands a range
of skills, traits, and personal qualities from the individual who wants to pursue this career
path. It is not an innate ability. The interesting part is when I envision myself running a stable
or well-established business, because I never imagined myself doing that in my entire life.
Frankly, I think that I lack some of the characteristics that an entrepreneur should have, such
as self-confidence, since it was my first time running a business. But, the outcomes are not
surprising, but rather confirmatory of what my strengths and weaknesses are. When
considering entrepreneurship, it is important to consider the differences between having the
right talents and actually being an entrepreneur. Therefore, the right talent is important, but
not everyone possesses it. But as an entrepreneur, you should find your own strength and
work on your weakness to be successful. Sales is a skill which requires high interest,
patience and passion not to give up. Nothing is impossible without hardwork.

Last but not least, selling the product until it reached sales of RM 150 was the most
challenging task for me. I thought it was impossible at first, because I had no experience in
selling anything on a large scale to strangers, but I managed to achieve the target set by Dr
by selling Kerepek Ubi Pedas Basah around my office area and neighborhood. I could not
have done this without Dr. Ramesh’s guidance and support from my group members also.

10.5 Reflection by Shangkari A/P Mariapan

As I reflect on my journey, as an entrepreneur selling "Kerepek Ubi Sambal" several

important lessons come to mind. It was crucial for me to understand the market and identify
my target audience. Effective communication and building relationships turned out to be
factors in achieving success. Along the way I faced challenges like managing supply and
demand while maintaining product quality. These experiences taught me the importance of
resilience and efficient financial management. The entrepreneurial spirit demands an
appreciation for its demands.

I want to express my gratitude to my group members who made invaluable

contributions, collaborated with me and provided unwavering support throughout this
venture. Our collective efforts and shared vision have played a role in our success.
Additionally, I would like to extend appreciation to our lecturer for guiding us, imparting
knowledge and offering mentorship during this entrepreneurial journey. Your guidance has
been instrumental in shaping our understanding of entrepreneurship and sales. Thank you
for providing us with an opportunity to learn and grow.
