Vertical Circulation
3.1.1. Staircases

Width of the staircase = 1.5m >1.2 m; Hence Ok

According to regulation provide rise as 150 mm.
T +2R = 630mm
T +2 x 150 =630mm
T = 330mm
Tread = 330mm
Angle = 25 degrees
No of steps between two floors = 3600 = 24 steps
150

Therefore, locate a landing after each 12 steps.

3.1.2. Lift System

Total usable floor area of the building = 2030 m2

(assume building type as Investment downtown)
Area allocation per person = 10m2
Population per floor = 2030 = 203 persons / floor
10

Total population in the building = 203 x 14 = 2842 people

Population handled in 5 mins = 12% of population = 0.12 x 2842 = 341 people
Average interval = 30-35 seconds

 Within the average interval seconds, this population requires a very high car size.
 Therefore, we provide zoning system for this building.
 The lift system can be designed with two zones.
 The first zone has been selected from ground 1st floor to 9th floor. The second zone has to be from 9th
to 15th floor.
For first 8 floors;
Assume lift speed as 2m/s.
For upper floors, the total population = 7 x 203 = 1421
The population handled in 5 mins as 12% = 1421 x 12% = 171
people Interval can be 34 seconds with capacity of lifts as 24.
The corresponding round trip time with 2m/s lifts = 122 seconds
Floor to floor height is 3.6 m.
Hence, No. of lifts = 122/34 = 3.6
Therefore, A total of 4 lifts can be
provided.

 The inside size of the lift (From figure 5.3) = 2100 mm x 1650 mm
 The shaft size required = 2550 x 2400 mm
 The width of the lobby = 1.5 D = 1.5 x 1650 = 2475 mm

For Next 7 floors.

No. of upper floors = 7
For 10 upper floors, total population = 7 x 203 = 1421
The population handled in 5 mins as 12% = 1421 x 12% = 171
people Interval can be 34 seconds with capacity of lifts as 24.
Assume lift speed = 4m/s
The corresponding round trip time with 4m/s lifts = 100 seconds
Floor to floor height = 3.6 m
Additional time = (3.6 x 8 x 2)/4 = 14.4
Hence, No. of lifts = (100 + 14.4) /34 = 3.33 lifts

 A total number of 3 lifts can be provided for the next 7 floors.

 The inside size of the lift (From figure 5.3) = 2100 mm x 1650 mm
 The shaft size required = 2550 x 2400 mm
 The width of the lobby = 1.5 D = 1.5 x 1650 = 2475 mm
