CLEAN AREA ENTRY AND EXIT PROCEDURE


1.0 Purpose

1.1 To protect the environment and flexible endoscopes from being


contaminated by the person working inside the EDU clean area.

2.0 Scope

2.1 All personnel working in the EDU clean area.

3.0 Responsibilities

3.1 It is the technician’s responsibility to wear a PPE to reduce the risk of


cross contamination to any surgical instruments being worked on.
3.2 It is supervisor’s responsibility to ensure all staff working in clean area
are wearing PPE.
3.3 It is manager’s responsibility to ensure that all staff are trained on this
procedure and PPE are available.

4.0 Procedure

4.1 Staff should be on their medical scrubs before entering clean area.
4.2 Personal items must not be brought in the clean area. Keep them safe
in the allocated staff locker.
4.3 Staff should not be wearing any jewelleries while working in the clean
area.
4.4 Any cuts or skin abrasion must be covered with waterproof plaster.
4.5 Clean area entry procedure
4.5.1 While on the dirty side of gowning area, put on your hat.
4.5.2 Pick up the clean shoes and ready them on the clean side.
4.5.3 Wash your hands by following the correct way of hand hygiene.
4.5.4 Dry your hands thoroughly using paper towel.
4.5.5 Cross over to the clean side by stepping directly on the clean
shoes.
4.5.6 Put on your gown.
4.5.7 Put on beard/face cover if needed.
4.5.8 Rub your hands with alcohol gel before entering the clean area.

4.6 Clean area exit procedure


4.6.1 Remove your clean area gown and dispose it if single use. If
reusable, hung it on the provided peg.
4.6.2 Cross over to the dirty side by stepping directly on the dirty
shoes.
4.6.3 Pick up your clean shoes and put them on the rack.
4.6.4 Remove your hat and dispose it.
4.6.5 Wash your hands and dry thoroughly using paper towel.
4.6.6 Use an alcohol gel provided before exiting the area.
4.7 Visitors/contractors should wear a full PPE as described in section 4.4.
4.8 Visitors/contractors might not have a designated clean area shoes, they
can use shoe cover instead.
4.9 Visitors/contractors should remove and dispose their PPE before
leaving clean area as described in section 4.5.
