Lesson

2 G Major and F Major

In music, you must be familiarized with the basic symbol. Most importantly
that these symbols be identified where they are located on the musical staff.

Aside from clef and note you can also sometimes observed the accidentals
which are very useful in completing the pattern of intervals of a scale. The sharp ( )
sign raises the pitch by half step when placed before the note. The flat ( ) sign
lowers the note by half step. The natural ( ) sign cancels the effect of the sharp or
flat and return its pitch to its original tone.

The G Major scale used a sharp ( ) to maintain the required interval pattern.
In G scale, the beginning note is found on the second line of the staff. G is the home
tone. The sharp is located at fifth line and it is placed before F for the interval pattern
of WS-WS-HS-WS-WS-WS-HS.

14
F Major scale has one flat ( ) located on the third line of the staff. The home
tone do is located on the first space of the staff. The note is lowered by a half step to
make the major scale pattern.
