NICE: Inflation in the Philippines are decreasing, resulting to more modest prices on our
day to day needs
Bringing you the news live, here is Gab Relampagos
GAB: The country's inflation rate fell for the fourth month in a row, primarily due to a
slowdown in the increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages. During a press briefing
on Tuesday, National Statistician and PSA chief Claire Dennis Mapa said that inflation
dropped to 2.8% in January 2024, down from 3.9% in December of last year. He also
added that this is the lowest inflation rate since the 2.3% inflation rate recorded in
October 2020.
GAB: Mapa also claimed that the primary causes of the slowdown were the gradual
increase in food and non-alcoholic beverage costs from 5.4% in December to 3.5% in
January as well as the slower yearly increase in housing, water, gas, and other fuels from
1.5% in December to 0.7% in January.
GAB: We have a citizen here that would like to share his experience from this change
GAB: good morning sir, how did the decrease in inflation affect you?
UNKNOWN: Being a father means to provide for your family’s needs. In the past, I
struggled to make ends meet and feed my family. Now that it has decreased, I am
getting by easier than before. As long as we have something to eat everyday and my
children not starving, We are okay
GAB: Thank you sir for that inspirational message
GAB: The rapid fall in the costs of vegetables, tubers, cooking bananas, and others, with -
20.8% inflation, greatly contributed to the decline in the inflation of food and non-
alcoholic beverages. However, rice inflation increased to 22.6% from 19.6% in December.
So that means greater rice costs would be expected
GAB: That was the news, back to you nice

NICE: Thank you gab.
