I've had some amazing experiences in

my 15 years of global business travel.
Here are 5 of the most memorable:

Before Covid, work sent me all over the

globe. It was tough being away from
home and family. But it also taught me
some priceless life lessons.

And while the unique places and exotic

foods are unforgettable, it’s the bonds
with people that left a lasting impression.

These 5 locations did more than just add

stamps to my passport, they reshaped
my worldview—and me personally
(wait until you see the photos at the end):

1/ São Paulo

Leading a tech team in Brazil and Chile

brought unexpected surprises.

At a dinner game of “share something

surprising about yourself,” we discovered
that one team member could do an
uncanny Michael Jackson impersonation.

This showed me that everyone has a

hidden gem inside, ready to be found, if
you take the time to truly know them.

Lesson: Curiosity uncovers hidden gems.

2/ Hong Kong

After a week of meetings across China,

I joined some colleagues at a quaint
noodle shop in Central Hong Kong—a
place one of them frequented with her
dad during her childhood.

As we exchanged life stories, it dawned

on me that despite coming from
different corners of the globe, our
shared human experiences connect us.

Lesson: Our humanity transcends

geography.

3/ The Netherlands

A team-building tour of our company’s

projects in the Netherlands illuminated
how you can tell someone’s values from
their focus and investments.

When I saw the enormous storm surge

barriers constructed to protect the Port
of Rotterdam, it was clear how much the
Dutch people care about keeping their
future generations safe, not just now but
for the next 1,000 years.

Lesson: Where you invest time and

money mirrors your values.

4/ Toronto

A week of challenging meetings left me

feeling overwhelmed. Daily escapes
with co-workers to the neighboring Tim
Horton's provided a welcomed
reprieve, full of laughter and bonding.

Often, these outside-the-office

interactions evolve into friendships that
withstand the test of time.

Lesson: Bonds brewed in the trenches

can last a lifetime.

5/ Chicago

A life-altering moment came when I least

expected it. In a hotel lobby after a day of
meetings, an impromptu fitness wager
proposed by the CEO and some fellow
executives ignited my weight loss journey.

That night, as my heart pounded with the

realization of the daunting commitment I
made to shed 30 lbs. in 90 days, I knew it
was the exact motivation I needed. A year
later, I found myself 130 lbs. lighter.

Lesson: Seize the moment; it could be a

game-changer.

These journeys were more than just

business trips. They were lessons in:

● Embracing surprises
● Understanding humanity
● Valuing people's priorities
● Forming lasting relationships
● Seizing transformative opportunities

To all the road warriors out there, these

lessons were my travel souvenirs.

I hope they serve as reminders that every

trip can be a voyage of personal growth
and discovery. Enjoy the journey!
