Hard Landing background

Hard Landing is a landing with:

Aircraft Landing weight equal to or less than the MLW
And Vertical Acceleration (VRTA) (Force) between: 2.6g < VRTA < 2.86g

Severe Hard Landing is a landing with:

Aircraft Landing weight equal to or less than the MLW
And (VRTA) between: VRTA > 2.86g

Hard Overweight Landing is a landing with:

Aircraft Landing weight equal to or less than the MLW
Vertical Acceleration (VRTA) between: 1.7g < VRTA < 2.6g

Severe Hard Overweight Landing is a landing with:

Aircraft Landing weight equal to or less than the MLW
And (VRTA) between: VRTA > 2.86g

The primary source to detect Hard Landing is flight crew and Report 15 is an aid to determine the severity
of the event, The necessary data to explain a load report 15 are: Load Report 15 description
A/C Gross Weight (GW) Landing Weight on Line (C3)
Max Vertical Acceleration (VRTA) (Force) on Line (S3) or Max VRTA is on line T3 (If bounce only)

MCDU Auto Generate Hard Landing and Overweight Report 15, the code will start with number 4xxx or 1000 if the
Standerd Heder report 15 was requested manually from the MCDU.
4100 Excessive Radio Altitude Rate (RALR)
4400 Excessive Body Normal Acceleration (VRTA) Compared to the (limit at landing during) +/- 0.5 seconds before and
after landing
4500 Excessive Body Normal Acceleration (VRTA) Compared to the (limit at landing during with bounce) +/- 0.5 seconds
before and after landing (VRTA > VRTA 1.2) or at bounce (VRTA > VRTA 1.3)
4800 Excessive Gross Weight (GW) (Landing Weight) Compared to Radio Altitude Rate (RALR) at dates time at landing
4900 Excessive Gross Weight (GW) (Landing Weight) Compared to Body Normal Acceleration (VRTA) - During +/- 0.5
seconds before and after landing

Load report 15 interpretation step by step Example 1

When a load report 15 is triggered:

Step 1: Check The (GW) Landing Weight from Line (CE)
Step 2: Determine max VRTA (Force) from Line (S3) or (T3) If the Aircraft was Bouncing During Landing
Step 3: Determine zone as per diagram

Check the Code, if the code 4500 use T3 (VRTA) and CE (GW)
and for another codes use S3 (VRTA) and CE (GW)

Landing Weight = 7288 x 10 = 72880 kg (line CE)

If The Code was 4500 that mean

the Aircraft was Bouncing during
landing, in this case use VRTA
(Force) from T3 and Landing
Weight from (C3) Only

VRTA (g FORCE) = 2.65 g

Load report 15 interpretation step by step Example 2

When a load report 15 is triggered:

Step 1: Check The (GW) Landing Weight from Line (CE)
Step 2: Determine max VRTA (Force) from Line (S3) or (T3) If the Aircraft was Bouncing During Landing
Step 3: Determine zone as per diagram

Check the Code, if the code 4500 use T3 (VRTA) and CE (GW)
and for another codes use S3 (VRTA) and CE (GW)

GW Landing Weight = 5327 x 10 = 53270 kg (line

If The Code was 4500 that mean

the Aircraft was Bouncing during
landing, in this case use VRTA
(Force) from T3 and Landing
Weight from (C3) Only

VRTA (g FORCE) = 2.95 g (line S3)

Load report 15 interpretation step by step Example 1

Load Report A320 MLW = 66000 Landing Weight = 53270 kg < MLW
15 VRTA (g Force) = 2.95g

Line CE
Landing Weight > MLW ?

If The Code was 4500 that mean

the Aircraft was Bouncing during
landing, in this case use VRTA
(Force) from T3 and Landing
Weight from (C3) Only

NO Line S3
GW Landing Weight = VRTA = 2.95g
