DIVISION AS REPEATED SUBTRACTION

I. OBJECTIVES:
Represent division as repeated subtraction

Topic: Division as Repeated Subtraction
Reference: K to 12 Curriculum, Math 2 T.G pp. 188-190, LM pp. 129-130
Materials: Learning module, illustrations, activity sheets, flashcards of
Subtraction facts, counters, real objects
III. A. Preparatory Activities
1. Song
2. Drill: Flashing of subtraction cards
3. Review: (Actual activity)
Let the group to model division as equal sharing and let the pupils
tell the correct answer.
- Share equally 10 pencils to 5 participants
- Share equally 12 erasers to 4 participants
- Share 6 sharpeners to 2 participants.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
Picking of fruits in the “Magic Tree”

2. Presentation
A. – Show 20.00 to the pupils in the form of 1.00 coin. Call 5 pupils in
front. Divide the money among the 5 pupils.
Ask: How much money do I have in all?
How much did each of them receive?
- This time divide the money among the 5 pupils
- Say: I will give 4.00 to the (1st pupil)
- Ask: How much money was left to me?
(Repeat the process)

3. Reinforcing Activity
Call pupils one at a time to go in front and let the pupil answer the given
exercises on the board.
4. Application
Group the class into two groups and let the pupils do the given group
activity and then let each group to post their work on the board to check
their work.
5. Generalization
Division can be represented using repeated subtraction.

IV. Show the following division using repeated subtraction


1. 25 pupils were divided into 5 groups.
2. 16 flowers were divided into 4 ladies.
3. 10 santol were divided into 2 children.

V. Use repeated subtraction to show the Division of the following.


1. Thirty hotdogs were equally divided to 10 children
2. Twenty pieces of papers were divided to 5 pupils
3. Thirty-six pesos were equally divided to 6 sisters.
