4.1 Preparation work.

Preparing work shall be performed in according with approved shop drawing
and material approved and acceptance by inspection is as follows.
- Pumps may be inertia base plate-mounted (Figure 1), either singly or in packaged
sets, packaged sets include multiple pumps, accessories, and electrical controls
shipped to the job site on one frame, packaged pump sets may reduce the
requirements for multiple piping and field electrical connections and can be factory
tested to ensure specified performance.
- A concrete pad provides a secure mounting surface for anchoring the pump base
plate and raises the pump off the floor to permit housekeeping. The minimum weight
of concrete that should be used is 2.5 times the weight of the pump assembly. The
pad should be at least 4 in thick and 6 in. wider than the pump base plate on each
side.
- In applications where the pump bolts rigidly to the pad base. Level the pad base.
Anchor it. And fill the space between pump base and the concrete with a non-shrink
grout. Grout prevents the base from shifting and fills in irregularities. Pumps
mounted on vibration isolation bases require special installation.
- Each pump mounted on inertia base and spring isolators which are placed on a
concrete foundation. The minimum static deflection of spring isolators shall be 25
mm. (1 inch).

Installation work shall be performed in according with approved shop

drawing and material approved and acceptance by inspection is as follows.
- Support in-line pumps independently from the piping so that pump flanges
are not overstressed (Figure 2).
- Support in-line pumps independently from the piping so that pump flanges are not
overstressed (Figure 2).
- Eccentric reducers at the pump flange reduce the potential of air packets forming
in the suction line.
- Pipe flanges should match the size of pump flanges. Mate flat-face pump flanges
with flat- face piping flanges and full-face gaskets, install tapered reducers and
increasers on suction and discharge lines to match the pipe size and pump flanges.
- Install shutoff valves in the suction and discharge piping near the pump to permit
removing and servicing the pump and strainer with out draining the system. Install a
check valve in the pump discharge to prevent reverse flow in a non-running pump
when multiple pumps are installed.
- Install vibration isolators in the pump suction and sis charge lines to reduce the
transmission of vibration noise to building spaces (Figure 1). Properly located pipe
hangers and supports can reduce the transmission of piping strains to the pump.
- Each pump installation should include pressure gages and a gage sock to verify
system pressures and pressure drop. As a minimum, pressure taps with as
isolation valve and common gage should be available at the suction and discharge
of the pump. An additional pressure tap upstream of the strainer permits checking for
pressure drop.
- Prepare the insulation pipe material by select the size and thickness of material
approve, estimate the required insulation pipe quantity from the shop drawing,
take off from the stocking area, check the physical appearance of material and
dispose of the damaged material, clean the mud, dirt and take to the working area.
- Normally pipe insulation are supplied in Chilled water pumps which maximum
thickness per sheet is 25 mm.

4.3 Installation and Connection Works.

- Protect the chiller water pump and condenser water pump from the damaged by the above
working with plastic sheet and close plywood to suction and discharge pump if waiting
installation long time.
4.4 Installation of Chiller Water and Condenser Water Pump.
- By the approved materials, check for the materials on site receiving the Chiller Water and
Condenser Water Pump at site the quality control engineer will inspect for any visible external
damages.
- Check size, height and mounting points to mount to pump base and plinth of Inertia Block.
Title : Page 8 of 15
Document No. : Effective Date : Revision :

- Prepare C-Channel of frame and reinforcing steel rod.

- Clean C-Channel and steel rod.
- Pour and cure concrete.
- Check color and operating height to Spring Isolators.
- Locate the Inertia Block on the plinth with temporary supports at proper height, install
expansion bolts in the plinth.
- Install Spring Isolators at Inertia block base. Fix bolts, washers, nuts on Spring Isolators and
expansion bolts.
- Remove temporary supports and level the Inertia Block by adjusting Spring Isolator.
- After installation, check visual appearance and mechanical security.
- Check the cleanness and freedom from obstruction.
4.5 Installation of Chiller Water and Condenser Water Pump and Accessories
- Check the dimensions of pump base and the mounting points.
- Check and install expansion bolts in the Inertia Block.
- Install the pump on the Inertia Block and fix bolts, washers, nuts on pump base and
expansion bolts.
- After installation, check visual appearance and mechanical security.
- Check the cleanness and freedom from obstruction.
4.6 Installation of electrical work.
- Check builder’s work.
- Check junction boxes and their color code.
- Check no.s and color code of cables.
- Check insulation in junction boxes of ventilating fans and clean them.
- Test all terminals with an insulation tester.
- Fix conduits brackets.
- Cut the conduits to suitable length.
- Thread the conduits and pipe with the threading machine, clean the ends of conduits
inside with reamer and clean and brush the threaded end as by a wire brush and then
select the connection.
- Fix conduits and flexible conduits.
- Wire the conduits and flexible conduits.
- Connect wires to terminals and check earth bonding.
- After installation, close the box covers, check color code, visual appearance and
mechanical security.
- Check the cleanliness and freedom from obstruction.
4.7 Initial Start-up Pump
- Once the pump has been mounted to the base, check the alignment of the motor
to the pump. Align the pump shaft couplings properly and shim the motor base as

required. Incorrect alignment may cause rapid coupling and bearing failure.
- If a flow-measuring station (venture, orifice plate, or balancing valve) is located in the
pump discharge, allow 10 diameters of straight pipe between the pump discharge and
the flow station for measurement accuracy.
- If fine mesh screen is used in the strainer at initial start-up to remove residual
debris, replace it with normal size screen after commissioning to protect the pump
and minimize the suction pressure drop.
- Various accessories need to be studied as altimeters to conventional fittings, a
suction diffuser in the pump inlet is an alternate to an eccentric reducer and it
contains a strainer. Separate strainers can be specified with screen size. A
multipurpose valve in the pump discharge is an altimeter way to combine the
functions of shutoff, check, and balancing valves.
- Check direction of rotation pump is suction and discharge correct or not.

4.8 Inspection and testing

- The site engineer shall verify that all conduits equipment and material are conformed to the
specification before work commences.
- The site engineer or supervisor shall verify the construction drawing is good for construction.
- The site engineer shall ensure that type of equipment to be installed is in accordance with the
specification.
- In function inspected of equipment visual check by site engineer; QC engineer and MTL
representative.
- The type of equipment to be installed shall be in accordance with the design
