agreement rule?”

Here are some rules on some-verb agreement.

1. The conjunction or does not conjoin. When nor or or is used, the subject
closer to the verb determines the number of the verb.

Examples:
a. Either my father or my brothers are going to sell the house.
b. Neither my brothers nor my father is going to sell the house.

2. Some words end in -s and appear plural but are singular and require
singular verbs.

Examples:
a. The news from the front is bad.
b. Measles is a dangerous disease for pregnant women.
D. Application

A. Write if the subject and verb work together. If they do not.


1. Rollie flies a kite.
2. The sun dries the sand pies.
3. The lifeguards watches the swimmers.
4. The babies, lying in the cradle, sleeps like an angel.
5. Dancing and singing are my hobbies.

B. Choose the correct form of the verb.

6. Either Sheena or her friends (join, joins) the camping.


7. Hannah is one of the office workers who still (attend, attends) classes.
8. Mathematics (is, are) my favorite subject.
9. Some of the sugar (pour, pours) in my cup.
10. Nobody (want, wants) to join the rally.
