2. Sustain interest in studying subject-verb agreement
3. Compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate grammatical
structures: subject-verb agreement
B. Motivation
Ask a pupil to do a verb (something that the teacher instructs). Ask the class
what their classmate does.
Ask a group to do the same activity.
Example:
Marvin jumps.
Ana, Fe, and Mitch jump.
C. Presentation
Say: Remember that verbs, unlike nouns, have the -s form of the word for the
singular form and base form for the plural form.
1. Singular subjects take a singular verb. Plural subjects take plural verb.
Examples:
a. An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
b. The monkeys jump on the trees.
2. The verb agrees only with its subject. Words between subject and verb do
not affect the number of the subject. (Intervening words)
Example:
The lady with the white roses walks in the aisle.
3. A compound subject joined by and takes a plural verb. When they refer to
as one unit, it takes singular verb.
Examples:
a. Happiness and Kindness are examples of valuable gifts that cannot buy.
b. The adviser and mother in our class is our teacher.
