D. Abstraction
Subject-verb agreement is the grammatical rule that the verb or verbs
in a sentence must match the number, person, and gender of the
subject; in English, the verb needs to match just the number and
sometimes the person.
We have 12 rules, but we will discuss today the five rules only.
Rule #1: If the subject is singular, the verb must be singular too.
Examples:
She writes every day.
Tom rides his bike.
The dogs roll in the mud.
She needs to catch her breath.
The girl dances. (from activity)

Rule #2: If the subject is plural, the verb must also be plural.
Examples:
They write every day.
We are busy.
The boys are climbing.
Thet are amazing.
They are sad.(from activity)

Rule #3: When the subject of the sentence is composed of two or

more nouns or pronouns connected by ”and”, use a plural verb.
Examples:
Jan, John, and Bob walk to the store.
Marie and Mary are lovely.
Angela and her friends are happy.
Jenny and Joh are happy. (from activity)

Rule #4: When two or more singular nouns or pronouns are

connected by "or" or "nor," use a singular verb.
Examples:
The chairperson or the CEO approves the proposal before proceeding.
Bob or his brother walks to the store.
Card or balloon is enough.
The boy nor his doll is wearing black.
The dog or the cat is outside. (from activity)

Rule #5: Collective nouns are words that imply more than one person
but are considered singular and take a singular verb. Some examples
are "group," "team," "committee," "family," and "class".
Examples:
The group meets every week.
The committee agrees on the quality of the writing.
Group two is presenting.

E. Application
