B = (2𝑖̂ + 4𝑗̂ − 3𝑘̂ ) gives unit vector along y-direction.
22. Two forces 5 kg-wt and 10 kg-wt.are acting with an inclination of 1200 between them. Find the
angle when the resultant makes with 10 kg-wt.
23. Distinguish between position vector and displacement vector.
24. How is the inertia of a body measured?
25. State and explain Newton’s first law of motion.
26. A passenger of mass 72.2kg is riding in an elevator while standing on a platform scale. what does
the scale read when the elevator cab is (i) descending with constant velocity (ii) ascending with
constant acceleration, 3.5 m/s2 ?
27. Define momentum. Is it a scalar or a vector quantity? Give its units and dimensions.

28. Rain is falling vertically with a speed of 30 m/s. A woman rides a bicycle with a speed of 10m/s in
the North to south directions. What is the direction in which she should hold her umbrella?
29. State and prove the polygon law of vector addition.
30. What is a projectile? Give some examples of projectile motion.
31. The position of a particle is given by r = 3.0 t 𝑖̂ − 2.0 𝑡 2 𝑗̂ + 4.0𝑘̂ where, t is in seconds and the
coefficients have the proper units for r to be in meters. (i) Find the v and a of the particle. (ii)
What is the magnitude and direction of velocity of the particle at t = 2s?
32. What do you mean by impulse of a force? Show that impulse is equal to the product of average
force and the time interval for which the force acts. Give the units and dimensions of impulse.
33. See in figure a mass of 6 kg is suspended by a rope of length 2m from the ceiling. A force of 50 N
in the horizontal direction is applied at the mid-point P of the rope as shown. What is the angle the
rope makes with the vertical in equilibrium? (Take g = 10 ms-2). Neglect the mass of the rope.

34. State the laws of kinetic friction. Define coefficient of kinetic friction. Is it less than or greater than
the coefficient of static friction?
IV. FIVE MARKS: 3 x 5 = 15
35. Two vectors 𝐴⃗ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐵
⃗⃗ are inclined to each other at an angle 𝜃. Using parallelogram law of vector
addition, find the magnitude and direction of their resultant.
Discuss the special cases, when (i) 𝜃 =0o, (ii) 𝜃 = 180o (iii) 𝜃 = 90o.
Or
A projectile is fired horizontally with a velocity u. Show that its trajectory is a parabola. Also
obtain expressions for its (i) time of flight (ii) horizontal range and (iii) velocity at any
instant.
36. A body is projected at an angle 𝜃 with the horizontal. Derive an expression for its horizontal range.
Determine the condition for maximum horizontal range. Show that there are two angles of
projections for the same horizontal range. Also calculate the velocity of the projectile at any instant
t and at the end point of the flight.
Or
Define centripetal acceleration. Derive an expression for the centripetal acceleration of a particle
moving with uniform speed along a circular path of radius r. Discuss the direction of this
acceleration.
37. What do you mean by banking of a curved road? Determine the angle of banking so as to minimize
the wear and tear of the tyres of a car negotiating a banked curve.

(a) What are concurrent forces? Obtain the condition of equilibrium of number of concurrent
forces
(b) A mass of 6 kg is suspended by a rope of length 2 m
from a ceiling. A force of 50 N in the horizontal direction is
applied at the mid point of the rope as shown in the fig .
what is the angle the rope makes with the veritcal in
equilibrium [ neglect the mass of the rope] g = 10 m/s2
