Prairie dogs live in underground holes. These holes are called burrows.
Prairie dogs work together to dig burrows. They use their long, sharp
claws. These burrows are usually two to three meters deep. There are two holes
for going in and out. There are also long tunnels and many rooms inside.
Each room is useful. In some rooms, prairie dogs eat. They sleep and care
for their babies in other rooms. There is also a listening room. This room is
close to the exit hole. They listen and wait there. They come out when it is safe.
Next time you see a hole in the ground, imagine prairie dogs’ homes!
