Definition and Importance of Purposive Communication

1.What is purposive communication and why is it important?


Purposive communication is about writing, speaking and presenting to different audiences for
various reasons. We communicate every day for various purposes and communication is the
key for us to survive and to connect to other people. In this way, we can see the importance of
Purposive Communication since it allows us to communicate effectively. Purposive
communication helps us to be equipped with the tools needed for critical evaluation and decoding
of variety of text, symbols, gestures that enhances our ability of conveying messages.

2. What are the different opinions about purposive communication?


Purposive communication is about improving our communication skills, it is said that
people who undergone or finished this course said that their communication skill improved.
Because of this, I found purposive communication reassuring since I want to improve my
communication competencies. Basing on my experience alone, after finishing our English
course in senior high school, I found my writing skills and reading skill improved. My ability
to decode message from bodily language improved as well. With this I can say that purposive
communication is the best way to engage oneself to improve their communication
competencies.
3. What are the uses of purposive communication?
Purposive communication is used in every aspect of our daily lives. We use purposive
communication to effectively connect to people and build a better relationship with them. With
this, we are able to share our ideas, opinions, express our feelings and also to listen to them and
build meaning basing on what they are saying and their bodily movements. We also use
purposive communication in academics to write and analyze research paper, essays, poems,
paragraphs or text and give evaluation on them.
4. What is purposive communication?
Purposive Communication in the 21st Century is about writing, speaking, and presenting
to different audiences and for various purposes (CMO, s2013). Purposive Communication in the
21st Century offers an array of activities that can help improve our communication competency.
These activities include listening, comprehending, critiquing, and responding to live or recorded
discussions, speaking publicity with confidence, explaining authentic passages or text in your own
words aided by illustrations in various forms, writing technical reports and academic papers, and
preparing a presentation using PowerPoint or any web-based platforms.
5. What are the aims of purposive communication?
Purposive communication aims to enhance our ability to better communicate to one
another. It aims to upgrade our data base of our verbal, non-verbal and visual communication
skills which will help us to be equipped with the tools for critical development of our fundamental
skills of communication such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. Lastly, purposive
communication aims to enhance our communicative competence.
