B. Find the next term in the following sequence.

1. 10, 12, 16, 18, 22, _24__

2. 2, -4, 8, -16, 32, _-64_

3. 5, 7, 9, 11, _13__, 15, 17

4. 30, 26, 22, 18, _14__

5 – 8. RATS sequence. RATS stands for Reverse, Add, Then Sort. The first few terms of this
sequence 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 77, 145, 668….. the term 668 is derived from previous term 145, by
reversing the digits of 145 to get 541, adding 145 and 541 to get 686, and then sorting the
digits 686 from smallest to largest to get the new term 668. Find the next term of the RATS
sequence. 1,534

Corrected RATS Sequence:

RATS sequence. RATS stands for Reverse, Add, Then Sort. The first few terms of this
sequence 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 77, 154, 605….. the term 668 is derived from previous term 145, by
reversing the digits of 145 to get 541, adding 145 and 541 to get 686, and then sorting the
digits 686 from smallest to largest to get the new term 668. Find the next term of the RATS
sequence. 1,111

C. Find what is asked for each item.

1. The Fibonacci numbers were first introduced in Fibonacci's book, "Liber abaci" in a
question to find the population of an animal at a particular time. What animal did he use?
__RABBIT_____

2. What is the fifteenth number in the Fibonacci sequence considering 1 as the first term?
____610_________

3. Fibonacci spirals (generated by drawing a quarter-circle in each box, where a larger box
lays adjacent to a smaller one, and the lengths of these boxes are Fibonacci numbers) are
claimed to appear in the arrangements and patterns of fruits, vegetables, pine cones, seed

Reflection/Assessment. Answer briefly but substantially.

A. What new ideas about mathematics did you learn? What is it about mathematics that might have
changed your thoughts about it?
- I learned that Mathematics is not just by means of computing numbers otherwise it is for us to
discover different patterns around us. It is my first time to encounter how Fibonacci sequence was
being computed and what images are related to it. It really changed my thoughts because
Mathematics is one of the most used subject in the aspect of my job. I am working at the Treasury
at the Local Government Unit of Santiago City at this Mathematics subject will help me a lot in
pertaining to my job description.
-
B. How does geometric designs enhance creativity and enrich one’s culture?
- As a former Culture and the Arts Officer and a member of National Commission for Culture and
the Arts, our tribal culture is rich in different beliefs which is significant on their way of living.
Their clothes that is being weaved by their tribal women reflects the creativity of one’s indigenous
people’s tribe. By this geometric designs, we can we able to distinguish the difference of each
tribe. That is why we as a student, we should have engaged ourselves to this particular culture of
the Filipinos that is purely related to our Mathematics subject.
