DISCUSSION

What makes something alive? What characteristics define life? All living organisms
share some common characteristics; Sensitivity- all living organisms respond to a certain
stimuli. Regulation- all organisms carry out regulatory processes among its bodily
functions.Homeostasis- organisms balance and maintain constant internal conditions in
their bodies to cope up with the environment. Growth, development and reproduction-
living organisms are capable of growing, reproducing and passing of traits from parent to
offspring and Order - organisms follow an order of complexity, from simple single- cells to
multicellular complex organisms.
All

living organisms, plants follow a level of biological organization. The Philippines is teeming
with an ecosystem filled with a wide array of different species of trees, shrubs and other
plants; all interacting with non-living factors in the environment. This interaction causes
other species of plants to thrive more and be successful inhabitants than others that
further gives the environment balance. Species that survive and adapt become the
communities of plants and all living forms in an areaall intertwined in the network of life;
a set of populations living in an area. Group of several species living together like Narra,
Apitong, Molave, Mahogany and other groups of moss, ferns and lichens is called a
population.
Each individual of these species is called an organism; a complete living thing that relies
in all its bodily processes being carried out by its organ systems, a group of organs
working together in cooperation to perform a major function. Plants have two main
organ system: the root system which is composed of root itself and the shoot system
comprised of the stem, leaf, flowers and fruits. An organ is a collection of tissues working
together for a specific function, whereas plant tissues is a group of cells that work
together performing a specialized function. Plant tissues can be categorized into

unit of an organism’s structure and function. Plant cells are capable of producing their
own food through the process of photosynthesis, retain water and distribute materials
throughout the plant.
