AUTHENTIC READING SESSIONS (ARS)

(Authentic Book Club)
S.Y. 2022-2023

I. INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE

According to Angelou (2012), any book that helps a child to form a habit of
reading and to make reading one of his needs, is good for him. Reading is one of the five
macro skills that a learner must possess in order to become a competent individual.
Reading broadens a reader’s horizon. The more a person reads, the more he/she acquires
knowledge that can help him/her become successful in life.

Reading habits are well-planned and deliberate pattern of study which students
should do with consistency. Students who read most of the time and have consistent
reading habits easily understand academic subjects and pass examinations. The reading
habits of students affect how they perform in school. If students develop good reading
habits at an early age, they will surely become an achiever. For this reason, a new
innovation of Cauayan City Science and Technology High School is being created, the
Authentic Reading Sessions (ARS) to help the students achieve the said learning goal.

II. OBJECTIVES

Authentic Reading Sessions (ARS) aims to enhance the reading skills and to
promote love of reading to students. It will help students to improve their comprehension
skills by reading and discussing different literary pieces and nonfiction texts through
different platforms such as Facebook Livestream, YouTube Channel, Radio Laboratory
(CCSTHS Radio Edukalidad), Zoom/Google Meet, and answering questions afterwards.

III. PROCEDURE

To enhance the reading skills and promote love of reading, ARS will conduct an
online and on air reading sessions of literary pieces and nonfiction texts, involving
Cauayan City Science and Technology High School (CCSTHS) student-members year-
round.

Every reading session, student-members will share their thoughts on the short
stories they read by reading the piece, explaining the analysis such as characterization,
plot, and lesson/moral of the story. When a reading material is nonfiction, they will be
having special quizzes.
