- Common structures:
- Communication is pidgin-like; omission of grammatical/function words. (Ex: little words such as ‘the,’
‘a,’ ‘is,’ ‘will,’ ‘of,’ ‘by,’ pluralization, tense (past -ed), verb endings/person agreements (she eat ‘s’) are
omitted.
- Use of content words (verbs, nouns, adjectives) and some pronouns such as ‘me’ and ‘mine.’
- Word order and structure are obeyed. Considering the English word order (SVO)
•Coordination (Two clauses joined in a symmetrical relation): ex: “I am tall, but she is short.”
•Subordination (Two clauses joined in a non-symmetrical relation): ex: “When I am older, I am going
to be bigger.”
- Use of more complex questions and negatives appear between 2.6-3.0 years old
