CYCLONE
About
▪ A cyclone is a powerful, rotating storm
characterized by low pressure, strong winds, and
heavy rain. Forming over warm ocean waters,
cyclones can cause significant damage to coastal
areas through storm surges and intense winds.

Cyclone in India 2023


• It was the first Cyclone in India 2023 named Cyclone
Biparjoy . It was formed in 6 June 2023 and dissipated
in 19 june 2023. It’s highest speed is 165km/h.
Over 23 people were injured as well as 4600
villages were affected by power outages in India. A
total of 12 people were confirmed to have been killed
in India
EARTHQUAKE
▪ About
• Earthquakes are the result of sudden movement along
faults within the Earth. The movement releases stored-up
‘elastic strain’ energy in the form of seismic waves, which
propagate through the Earth and cause the ground surface to
shake.
Last biggest earthquakes in India
• Bhuj earthquake of 2001, massive earthquake that
occurred on Jan. 26, 2001, in the Indian state
of Gujarat, on the Pakistani border

• The earthquake struck near the town of Bhuj on the morning


of India’s annual Republic Day and it was felt throughout much of
northwestern India and parts of Pakistan. The moment
magnitude of the quake was 7.7. In addition to killing more than
20,000 people and injuring more than 150,000 others, the quake left
hundreds of thousands homeless and destroyed or damaged more
than a million buildings
Floods
About
▪ Floods occur when water surpasses normal levels,
inundating land. Caused by heavy rain, melting snow,
or storm surges, floods can devastate communities,
damaging homes, infrastructure, and endangering
lives.

2023 North east flood


▪ Heavy rainfall in mid-August caused flooding
which killed ten people in Uttarakhand,
including a boy and his parents. A total of 75
people were killed throughout the state
between April and August.
The National Disaster Management

About
▪ The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), headed
by the Prime Minister of India, is the apex body for Disaster
Management in India. Setting up of NDMA and the creation of
an enabling environment for institutional mechanisms at the
State and District levels is mandated by the Disaster
Management Act, 2005.
▪ Chairman of NDMA was Prime Minister of India
