15 Second, Use context clues to find the meaning of unfamiliar words in a
16 sentence
17 Third, Select the correct words based on the given context clues

19 Before we get started, let me remind you of these important reminders.
20 You are not allowed to write anything on the SMILE. Instead, please
21 use your pen and notebook to answer the activities provided.

29 Context clues are hints to the meaning of a difficult word. These hints can be
30 in the same sentence or in the sentences before or after the sentence that
31 uses the difficult word .
32 “CONTEXT CLUES” are specially designed for you to learn the skills in
33 finding the words which have the same meaning.
34 In the context clues, the clue may appear within the same sentence as the
35 word to which it refers that a reader can use to understand the meanings of
36 new or unfamiliar words.

37 Example: Mary’s surname is Flores , and her middle name is Turner.
38 Surname means your last name.
40 So let us try your understanding. On pages 1 to 2 of your SMILE
