City Sterility No Urinating in Public Place Policy: Promoting Public Space Etiquette for a Better

INTRODUCTION

In the crowded place of modern life, the concept of City Sterility emerges as a bridge for promoting a
more harmonious and pleasant community experience. One problem in a community that is
noticeable is the unpleasant odor in public and private places left by the urinating of people in any
place in the community. According to Tribal News Network (2023), the smell left by the urine affects
the environment and gives off a bad atmosphere. In addition to this, it also has a large negative
impact on the public health, economy, and tourism of a particular area. Signage making will be the
part of this concept encapsulating the “No Urinating Policy” This will be beneficial in providing a
solution to the problem of undiscipline urinating in any place.

II. PURPOSE

This concept "City Sterility No Urinating in Public Place Policy : Promoting Public Space Etiquette for a
Better Community" therefore aimed at cultivating a respect for community, order, and shared
responsibility within the public spaces. This concept seeks to elevate the quality of general living by
encouraging and instilling a sense of discipline and respect in maintaining the cleanliness of our
shared environments. Posting a “No Urinating Policy” will also contribute for a clean and hygienic
environment. This signage is not only to remind people that they should not urinate anywhere or in a
public place also to get rid of the unpleasant smell caused by human urination in any place. The main
factors that contribute in establishing this concept is to support public health, preserve environmental
sustainability, uphold community standards, and ensure a clean and pleasant living environment for
all individuals.People need a self-discipline and a sense of respect not only by the community also to
their environment.

Urinating anywhere is punishable according to MMDA Resolution 03-25 Sec. 5. A person who is
convicted of urinating or defecating in public under this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and shall
be fined not less than $100.00 (5,580.85) or more than $500.00 (27,887.25) or imprisoned in the
County Jail for a term not to exceed six (6) months, or both. (Ord. 2004-01, 3-2-2004).

III. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The objective of this project is to create and install effective signage communicating the "No Urinating
in Public Spaces" policy. The signage aims to reinforce community standards, promote public health,
and maintain a clean and pleasant environment in designated areas. With the partnership of group
five, stating the problem to the barangay authorities of Balele and requesting them the making of
signages and asking for permission for the said problem will be held. Using a recyclable materials will
be highly recommend in signage making. Create designs for the signage that are both visually
appealing and easy to understand. Convey the idea that it is not permitted to urinate in public areas
with simple and understandable language. To maximize understanding, think about utilizing
languages and symbols that are commonly used. Make sure the signage adheres with all legal
requirements and any local authority guidelines. To determine whether the signage is effective and to
make any required improvements, get feedback from the community and local authorities. Conduct
periodic evaluations to measure the effectiveness of the signage in reducing public urination. By
establishing this concept, we aim to contribute to a cleaner and more respectful public environment
while promoting community well-being.

IV. PROBLEM AND SIGNIFICANCE

Urinating in inappropriate or public places can lead to several kinds of problems that affect the
individual as well as the community at large. Numerous major problems, including public morality,
public nuisance, odor, health, and cleanliness, are associated with urinating anywhere. You might
unintentionally cause harm to other people's property. This may lead to a civil lawsuit or criminal
charges being brought against you. The smell has the potential to alter our sense of who we are as
neighbors. We can be perceived by tourists and travelers as "having no manners and no
responsibilities."

The making and posting signages for a "No Urinating" policy in public spaces play a crucial role in
shaping behavior, fostering community responsibility, and creating an environment where residents
take pride in maintaining the cleanliness and dignity of shared spaces.

V. APPROACH/ METHODOLOGY

Making and placing no-urinating signs around the community, especially in places where people used
to pee, even if it was not the proper way to use it. Informing the residends for the possible negative
outcome of urination in a public places. Seeking for feedback from the local authorities and the
community and conducting periodic evaluations to measure the effectiveness of the signage in
reducing public urination. By employing a combination of these methods, it will help us communicate
the community's expectations and foster a polite and clean atmosphere.

VI. IMPACTS AND OUTCOMES

This public problem can solve the loss and avoid unpleasant odors from urine. When this is followed
over time, the person will get used to peeing in the comfort room. People will become disciplined and
realize that peeing in the wrong urinal is not right. The tourist will be comfortable going to any place
in the community without bothering with the smell of the surroundings where they are going. The
impacts and outcomes of making and posting "No Urinating" signages contribute to a more
responsible and respectful community, where individuals take pride in preserving the cleanliness and
attraction of public spaces.
