1 Definitions
1.1 The Purchaser shall mean the entity Outotec.
1.2 The Vendor shall mean the entity onto which the supply Purchase Order
is placed.
2 Scope of Supply
2.1 This specification covers the requirements for the surface preparation,
priming, painting and protective coating of Grinding Mill mechanical
equipment.
2.2 The works shall comply with all statutory requirements, the relevant
current local and International standards and related specifications as
applicable.
2.3 All surface preparation, priming, painting and protective coating shall be
applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
The bottom surfaces of soleplates / baseplates facing the concrete and cast in
foundation items must not be: primed, painted or subject to any other type of
surface protection.
All stitch welded joints shall be sealed between stitches with Sikaflex 221 before
the intermediate coat is applied but after blasting and priming. The Sikaflex 221
shall be allowed to fully cure prior to application of the intermediate coat.

5 Acceptance Criteria
For all protective coating systems described in this specification, where “Total Dry
Film Thickness” is specified, the coating thickness shall be tested using one of the
following non-destructive methods:
• Magnetic Pull-Off method
• Magnetic Flux method
• Eddy Current method
6 Typical Colours
Outotec have standardized on the following colours for use on all our equipment.
Unless otherwise specified by project specific requirements the following colour
scheme will apply:
• RAL 7040 – Large Flat Surfaces – ex. Mill Shell, Mill Heads, Bearing
Housings, Gear Guard, Rock Box, Oil Tanks, etc.
• RAL 7012 – Structural Surfaces – ex. Ring Gear, Feed Trolley, Trunnion
Liners, Hydraulic Equipment, etc.
• RAL 1023 – Safety Guards and Rails – Coupling Guards, Handrails and
Ladders, Wheel Covers, etc.
For the Protective Coating Systems which have the Final Colour listed as “TBA”,
refer to the project datasheet for the component to be coated for the colour
specification.

All machined surfaces shall be coated with Tectyl 506 or equivalent, so as to prevent
corrosion of the machined surface.

detail drawings.

All machined surfaces shall be covered with Denso or Densyl tape or an equivalent to
provide long-term corrosion protection.
Thru holes (plain or tapped) shall be coated with Tectly 506 or equivalent, and
plugged with suitable plastic plugs to resist water ingress.
Tapped holes shall be filled with grease (EP, AP or similar) and plugged with suitable
plastic plugs to resist water ingress.
