3 Surface Treatment Systems

Surface protection shall be suitable for use with fluids and deposits typically
encountered in the nominated ore treatment plant.

The bottom surfaces of soleplates / baseplates facing the concrete and cast in
foundation items must not be: primed, painted or subject to any other type of
surface protection.

5 Acceptance Criteria
For all protective coating systems described in this specification, where “Total Dry
Film Thickness” is specified, the coating thickness shall be tested using one of the
following non-destructive methods:
• Magnetic Pull-Off method
• Magnetic Flux method
• Eddy Current method

Acceptance of the coating quality shall be based on the recommendations of

SSPC, Steel Structure Paint Council. With respect to Dry Film Thickness
measurement the SSPC-PA2 recommendations are as follows:
• 5 spot measurements shall be taken per 10m2 of protected surface, evenly
distributed around the entire surface of the part.
• Each spot measurement shall be the average of 3 individual tests using
one of the methods described above.
• The average of the 3 individual tests must not be less than 80% of the
Total Dry Film Thickness specified for the system.
• The average of all spot measurements must not be less than the Total Dry
Film Thickness specified for the system.

6 Typical Colours
Outotec have standardized on the following colours for use on all our equipment.
Unless otherwise specified by project specific requirements the following colour
scheme will apply:
• RAL 7040 – Large Flat Surfaces – ex. Mill Shell, Mill Heads, Bearing
Housings, Gear Guard, Rock Box, Oil Tanks, etc.
• RAL 7012 – Structural Surfaces – ex. Ring Gear, Feed Trolley, Trunnion
Liners, Hydraulic Equipment, etc.
• RAL 1023 – Safety Guards and Rails – Coupling Guards, Handrails and
Ladders, Wheel Covers, etc.
For the Protective Coating Systems which have the Final Colour listed as “TBA”,
refer to the project datasheet for the component to be coated for the colour
specification.
