Major risk: Zone 5 Underpinning of NSL MRT Viaduct Pier
Hazards Mitigation measures Status
• Instability of jacking Instability of jacking system On-going
system due to loss - Calibrate all hydraulic jacking system before the work
of hydraulic - Ensure the hoses have adequate capacity to withhold the pressure
pressure - Prepare spare hydraulic equipment on site
- Perform staged jacking
• Damage to existing - Carry out staged cutting of raker piles
MRT viaducts from - Carry out pre and post construction survey of the viaduct
equipment

• Cause excessive 1st reserve zone (Works within railway protection zone)
movement to MRT - Provision of height limit sensor and existing pier protection
viaducts - Using of low headroom equipment
- Close supervision of all works at all time
- Instrumentation & monitoring
- Jacking done during engineering hours
- Ensure pile cap is properly propped

Hazards Mitigation measures Status

• Trench collapse Instability of jacking system On-going

- Trench stability calculation checks by PE and ensure full compliance

on site
- Control of machinery access and avoid excessive overburden pressure
adjacent to the open Trenches
- Strict control of bentonite specification and level on site (Bentonite
and probing check to be carried out every hour after desanding until
commencement of rebar cage installation)
- Bentonite level to be maintained at top of ground level and be
monitored regularly by designated banksman
- Carry out frequent koden tests to ensure no collapse of earth within
the open trench under the Dwall machine
- Permanently leave in Southbound underpinning cofferdam
sheet piles
