various academic subjects using the child's
mother tongue as the medium of instruction.
The aim is to ensure that students develop a
strong foundation of knowledge and skills
while using a language they are most familiar
with. The content covers subjects such as
language arts, mathematics, science, social
studies, and other relevant topics. The
content of MTB-MLE is designed to align with
curriculum standards and learning objectives.
It is adapted and contextualized to suit the
linguistic and cultural backgrounds of the
students. The curriculum materials and
resources are developed or selected to
ensure they are culturally relevant, inclusive,
and engaging for the learners.
 Lesson 4: Constructivist Theory in Teaching
MTB-MLE
Constructivist theory in teaching MTB-MLE
emphasizes the active role of learners in
constructing their own knowledge and
understanding. According to this theory,
learning is a process of actively engaging
with the environment, reflecting on
experiences, and constructing meaning
through interactions and problem-solving.
Teachers using the constructivist theory in
MTB-MLE employ various instructional
strategies such as hands-on activities, group
discussions, project-based learning, and
problem-solving tasks.
5. Values Integration
Why MTB-MLE is relevant?
It involves intentionally incorporating core values,
ethics, and moral principles into the teaching and
learning process. It aims to develop students'
character, social responsibility, and ethical
decision-making skills alongside their academic
knowledge and skills. This is achieved through
explicit teaching of values, integration of values
education into academic subjects, promoting
ethical decision-making, engaging in service
learning and community involvement, and
teachers serving as positive role models. Values
integration in MTB-MLE nurtures students' holistic
development, helping them become responsible,
ethical, and compassionate individuals who
contribute positively to their communities and
society.
