1. Introduction
This paper discusses various tourist destinations around the world. Here, the focus is on the
external environmental factors, and how they affect the different places with a corresponding
company.

The first paragraph briefly introduces and explains the tourist destinations around the world
and the 3 companies that are involved. In doing so, we will look at the sub-sector destinations.

Second paragraph will discuss what exactly the specific problems are, and how the
companies are currently dealing with them.

Then we will look at what could be done differently or better about dealing with the difficult
situation in which the companies find themselves. After this some recommendations to improve
the situation will be given.

Finally, a conclusion will be given looking back at the analysis and the corresponding
recommendations.

2.1. Bromo
Tourism is an industry that can attract tourists and improve the economy of a country.
This is also a top priority for countries around the world. As a result, the tourism sector is
required to continue to develop according to the needs of today's society. Bromo Tengger
Semeru National Park (TNBTS) is one of the most popular tourist icons in Indonesia. The
Mount Bromo tourist attraction is a tourist attraction located in the TNBTS area which has been
legalized as a national park since October 1982 which we can see in the Minister of
Agriculture's Statement No. 736/Minister of Agriculture/X/82 (Hidayatullah, 2020, #).

Unfortunately, on September 6 2023, one of the famous tourist icons experienced a

quite large fire. This incident was caused by sparks from flares used by Wedding Organizers
during pre-wedding photo shoots for their clients. This is of course very detrimental to the
Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy (PAREKRAF) sector. Informed by the Director of
Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Ministry of Tourism and
Creative Economy) Agustini Rahayu, he said that the fire that occurred in the Bromo Tengger
Semeru National Park (TNBTS) caused the country to suffer a loss of around Rp. 89.7 Billion.
This is due to the closure that occurred in the tourist area that experienced the fire. Of course,
it is not only the state that suffers losses, but individuals such as small traders who sell in the
Bromo area also feel the impact of the fire. The local community collaborated with the Regional
Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the National Disaster Management Agency
(BNPB) in extinguishing the fire and finally on September 13 2023 the fire was extinguished
(Puspapertiwi, 2023).

In conclusion, from the events above, negligence and unintentional actions that can
invite disaster can result in large losses for all groups. Both agencies and the general public.
We can also use this as a lesson to be more careful when doing something wherever we are
because it will have a big impact on those around us. Now, the government is making efforts
to repair the aftermath of the Bromo fire by using natural succession. Meanwhile, trees that
have already been burned will be repaired by embroidering the dead trees. Even though it will
take quite a long time, around two or three months, we can only hope that Bromo will be green
again quickly, so that tourists can enjoy the natural beauty offered by the Bromo Tengger
Semeru National Park (TNBTS).

2.2. The Smokehouse Hotel in Bukit Fraser
Fraser's Hill, while possessing its inherent allure, may not be perceived as favorably as
Genting Highlands or Cameron Highlands for several reasons such as Limitations in
Recreational and Entertaining Pursuits, Dimensions of Scale, Accessibility
Challenges, Climatic Variability and Assortment of Lodging Facilities.

Fraser's Hill, celebrated for its serene natural ambiance, offers a more restricted array
of leisure activities and recreational diversions in contrast to Genting Highlands, distinguished
by its extensive assortment of both indoor and outdoor amusements, or Cameron Highlands,
which offers an array of nature-oriented activities and excursions.

Fraser's Hill is characterized by relatively diminutive dimensions, both in terms of

geographical expanse and the quantity of accommodations and amenities at its disposal. This
diminution in scope could engender constraints on visitor choices, particularly during the zenith
of tourist influx.

Accessing Fraser's Hill can prove to be more arduous owing to the convoluted
topography of its access roads and the scarcity of public transportation alternatives. In
juxtaposition, Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands are more readily reachable by road.

While Fraser's Hill enjoys a colder climate that appeals to a specific demographic, it
may not resonate universally, diverging from Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands,
where the temperature spectrum exhibits a less consistent chill, thereby accommodating a
broader range of climatic preferences.

Fraser's Hill is characterized by a relatively sparse selection of accommodations when

contrasted with the extensive repertoire of choices available at Genting Highlands and
Cameron Highlands. Consequently, the dearth of options may engender impediments in
securing suitable lodgings, notably during the zenith of tourist visitations.

The Smokehouse Hotel, situated within the environs of Fraser's Hill, boasts a venerable
lineage traceable to the epoch of British colonial hegemony. It garnered acclaim for its
distinctive architectural manifestation, emblematic of the Tudor style, and its capacity to

5
proffer a veritable semblance of traditional English hospitality ensconced amid the undulating
Malaysian highlands.

Nonetheless, the annals of this establishment reveal a protracted chronicle beset by

adversities that precipitated a transformative sequence in ownership and managerial
stewardship. Consequently, these vicissitudes engendered oscillations in the echelons of
service quality and facility maintenance. The hotel, in the course of its trajectory, grappled with
intervals characterized by a conspicuous inability to adhere to the elevated standards that it had
initially espoused. The consequential diminution in the caliber of service and physical
maintenance could plausibly have exerted a deleterious influence upon the repute and allure of
the establishment within the purview of its patrons.

It is pertinent to underscore that the tribulations encountered by The Smokehouse Hotel

align with a recurrent motif within the tapestry of the hospitality industry, wherein enterprises
are subject to vicissitud bg es arising from variables encompassing alterations in administrative
oversight, prevailing economic circumstances, or shifts in paradigms relating to touristic
predilections. Consequently, the arc of temporal passage may furnish some establishments with
the impetus requisite for resuscitation and the restoration of their standing, while others may
find themselves ensnared within an enduring crucible of challenges.

2.3. Airline Ryanair flying to Sicily Italy

Last but not least, Sicily, with its beautiful landscapes, cultural heritage, culinary and
very tasty dishes such as pizza and pasta, has long been a hotspot destination for travelers
seeking a taste of Mediterranean beauty. However, beneath its ground lies a geological
compliance and a source of both fascination and challenges, namely the active volcanoes of
Mount Etna and Stromboli. While these volcanoes have enriched the island's soil and fertility,
they have also occasionally disrupted one of Sicily's most vital sectors – tourism (Provenzano
& Baggio, 2020). In this part of the paper, we will discuss transportation issues from and to
Sicily, facilitated by RyanAir, a budget airline flying within Europe which flies to almost every
big city. This will be explained in a further way in the analysis section about volcanic eruptions
in Sicily.

Logically, due to its active volcanoes named Etna and Stromboli, transportation from,
and to Sicily is in way significantly affected by volcanic eruptions. These eruptions can

6
interrupt several ways of transportation and can lead to a range of problems and issues.
Especially in air traffic. One big competitor in Europe’s air traffic market is RyanAir. Ryanair
is an Irish low-cost airline headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. Ryanair operates more than 1,800
flights daily and serves over 200 destinations in 40 countries, making it one of the continent's
leading budget airlines. With this number of flights within Europe, obviously, they fly to Sicily
as well. But as explained above, sometimes flying to Sicily can cause problems for
transportation companies, so also for this low-budget airline. The last time RyanAir had to deal
with these big problems was on the 14th of August this year. This is not the first time RyanAir
had to deal with this problem. This problem occurs almost every year (Trouw, 2023).

The first and most important factor that made an impact on RyanAir’s progress and
performance are the many flight disruptions they have to deal with. Volcanic eruptions can
lead to flight cancellations and flight delays, This affects Ryanair's schedule reliability, leading
to passenger inconveniences and potential financial losses. These financial losses are caused
by an increase in operational costs caused by compensation to affected passengers and aircraft
maintenance expenses due to ash contamination. Flight disruptions and delays can also affect
RyanAir’s reputation and customer satisfaction. These decreases in reputation and customer
satisfaction are caused by negative customer experience which are caused by these disruptions
and delays.

These decreases in reputation and customer satisfaction can lead to turnovers by

customers. Customers may turn to other low-budget carriers if they perceive better service and
options, potentially affecting Ryanair's market share. The market of low-budget after all is
highly competitive. This can also affect RyanAir’s companies’ business progress and
performances. The first recommendation we would give is to invest in advanced monitoring
and prediction systems. RyanAir should continue to invest and invest more in advanced
monitoring and prediction systems for volcanic activity, because this can help in better
anticipating eruptions and making informed operational decisions (Cook et al., 2017).

Furthermore, communication and transparency to customers is very important for

RyanAir. Ryanair clouds also implement a clear passenger care and compensation policy for
volcanic disruptions. This can help manage passenger expectations and problems with
regulations. Ryanair should also focus on strategies to retain customers during disruptions, such
as rebooking options, flexible flight change policies. Improving

7
communication with passengers during disruptions and clear and timely communication can
help manage expectations and minimize frustration among travelers. This minimization of
frustration can lead to an increase of reputation and customer satisfaction. The next
recommendation we would make is to collaborate with authorities. When collaborating with
relevant authorities and agencies in Sicily, RyanAir will be able to stay updated on volcanic
activity and receive real-time information to make informed decisions (Cook et al., 2017).

In conclusion, volcanic eruptions in Sicily pose challenges to Ryanair's business

operations. These challenges affect the airline's reputation, finances, and customer satisfaction.
By investing in advanced monitoring, improving communication, and implementing
diversification and risk reducing strategies, Ryanair can better navigate these challenges,
minimize disruptions, and ensure a higher level of business progress and performance even in
the face of volcanic activity.

3. Conclusion
The research explores the global tourism paradigm, specifically elucidating the
dynamic interrelationships among tourist destinations, external contextual elements, and the
operational entities therein. Exemplified by the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, it
elucidates a consequential setback – a substantial conflagration initiated by flares utilized in
pre-wedding photoshoots. This occurrence not only resulted in considerable fiscal
ramifications but also exerted an impact on local traders and the broader societal framework.
Subsequent remediation endeavors underscore a collaborative approach, accentuating the
imperative of exercising prudence to forestall such exigencies.

Transitioning to Fraser's Hill, the analysis accentuates its distinctive allure while
delineating inherent constraints vis-à-vis comparable destinations. The focal point narrows
down to The Smokehouse Hotel, delineating its historical import and the adversities it
encountered, including alterations in ownership influencing service quality. This narrative
serves as a microcosm mirroring overarching tribulations within the hospitality sector, where
establishments contend with vicissitudes in governance, economic vicissitudes, and evolving
tourist predilections.

The discourse then shifts to Sicily and its allure, juxtaposed with the geological
complexities arising from active volcanoes. The examination

8
hones in on Ryanair's role as a prominent actor in Europe's budget airline sphere. The recurrent
challenge of volcanic eruptions impinging on transportation to Sicily becomes conspicuous,
impacting not only Ryanair's operational efficacy and financial standing but also customer
satisfaction. Recommendations proffered encompass the implementation of sophisticated
monitoring systems, transparent communication, and collaborative engagements with
regulatory entities to alleviate the repercussions of such disruptions.

In summation, the study navigates through practical challenges encountered by tourist

destinations and affiliated enterprises, presenting a thorough analysis of occurrences, their
ramifications, and strategic directives for fortification and enhancement.
