Lesson 2: First Aid Basic Concept

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the lesson, the students will able to:
 identify the basic first aid skills;
 acquire the knowledge on the basic first aid treatment in case of
accident/injuries;
 recognize the first aid kit and its application; and
 react correctly to the given emergency situation.

Introduction
First Aid’s importance is recognized all over the world and its capacity to make a difference
cannot be overstated. While preserving life is the primary objective, First Aid can also bring relief
from crippling pain and prevent medical conditions from deteriorating until more advanced care
arrives. This becomes the very purpose of this lesson, to give awareness among the students that
upon acquiring knowledge and skills about first aid, they may help save a life, since they are more
likely exposed to the people and community. First aid in schools is especially helpful as student
often get into accidents that can need swift care in order to prevent things from escalating. Whether
it’s a minor injury or something more serious like a fracture, preventing further complications is
paramount. It enables them to assist persons who become injured in the event of an accident or
emergency situation until help arrives. It also gives them gain the confidence to step in to help
when an emergency occurs. The action they may take by responding straight away, could save a
life or prevent a person suffering permanent disability.

Moreover, knowledge of first aid promotes the sense of safety and wellbeing amongst
people, prompting them to be more alert and safe in the surroundings they dwell in. Awareness
and desire to be accident free keeps them more safe and secure, and reducing the number of
causalities and accidents. However, this lesson in this module served as a supplemental learning
materials in imparting the basic concept about first aid, yet, there will still be conduct of seminar
and workshop from the proper authority to be participated by the NSTP students, with the hope
that students will be engaged in the simulation of the basic skills or even first-hand experience
about first aid.

conducting the basic first aid to avoid major injuries.
Let us imagine that you witness someone experiencing any of these accident that needs
immediate action to save their lives, as a student equipped with the basic first aid knowledge,
perform step by step the ways that you need to do to help save a life or to avoid the inflection of
major injuries. Remember, your single mistake may cause severe damage to the victim.
A. Falling Accident

In a falling accident, prioritize safety and assess the situation. Check for
