Warm-up
Today, you’re going to speak about social media and friendship. Use the statements in
exercise 2 (p.28) as a starting point in order to prepare the session (you can also add
your own). You should try to react to your mates’ comments using the language
introduced in this unit and avoiding short answers. Which statements do you agree with
and which ones do you disagree with?

1. The only reason that people want to have lots of online friends is to
boost their confidence and feel better about themselves.
2. I enjoy having fiends on social media, but I sometimes wonder whether
it’s all a bit unnecessary.
3. Using electronic devices to communicate instead of spending time with
real people might actually do more harm than good.
4. Social media allows us to develop and strengthen relationships with the
people we know and see.
