Lubrication of the operating cables assemblies
Shifting system by cable - Vehicles 1214 C, 1214 K, 1418, 1718 K, 1720, 1720 K and 1723

For your knowledge we are indicating in succession the procedures to be observed to lubricate the referred
cables, to be carried out, as a corrective measure, in case of eventual hardening of cables, that is, in case of a
necessary high effort for selecting/coupling gears.

NECESSARY MATERIALS
• Molikote Grease DC 33 Light (see “Used Products”);
• Dow Corning 200 Fluid, type 200 (see “Recommended Products”);
• Lubricating Device (see “Constructive Details of the Lubricating Device”);
• Grease Gun (pump).

1 - Loosen the ball joints (1) near the selecting and coupling levers, of gear box;

2 - After loosening the nuts (5), loosen both cables of the support fastened to the clutch housing;

3 - Remove the ball joints (1), caps (2) (*) and retainers (3, 4), of the cables lower extremity (extremity at the side
of the gear box);
(*) - In case of execution with cap, applied presently in series, as of vehicle with chassis final nº ... 202298.

4 - Loosen the upper retainers (3, 4 ), installed in the cables upper extremity (extremity at the side of the shifting
lever);

5 - Remove one of the nuts (5) and, in its place, install the lubricating device, as indicated in the figure below;

6 - Prepare a lubricating mixture, composed of one part of Molikote grease DC 33 Light, and two parts of Dow
Corning 200 fluid (see “Recommended Products”). Then, supply the grease gun (pump) with this mixture.

7 - Inject the lubricating mixture in the operating cable, until that the same starts to escape in the cable upper
extremity (near the shifting lever).

8 - After the lubrication, remove the lubricating device and carry out again the system installation/adjustment.
Remarks:
• During the installation/adjustment of cables, observe the procedures specified in the “Service Information
- Gr.: 26 - Nº: 01/99”, mainly with regard to the shifting lever locking in neutral position (with the bolt M5);
• Reposition very carefully the lower and upper retainers (3, 4);
• Install the cap on the cables. Proceed with their installation also in the “execution without cap” (vehicles
with chassis final nº inferior to ...202298).
We recommend to proceed with the installation of the cap in both extremities of cables, in the version
“without cap” and in the version “with cap” as well;
• Install the ball joints (1), threading them to the end (until the stop) on the cables. Then, return them approx.
one turn and tighten the counternuts;
• At the time of fastening the ball joints in the selecting and coupling levers, tighten the respective nuts with
the torque of 16 to 23Nm.

For those vehicles within the warranty period, the execution of service should be carried out without expenses to
the Clients. In case of vehicles out of the warranty period, the policitcs of Scheduled Courtesy should be
observed. For reimbursement, send a Warranty Claim (S.G.) to the Factory, mentioning the number of this S.I.
Note: Exclusion is made to vehicles 1214 C and 1214 K, until chassis final nº ...190002, covered by the
“Actualization Action - AL 5/99”.
