Sealing - Substitution of the seal type
In order to prevent possible erroneous interpretations regarding the sealing applied in the vehicles manufactured
by Mercedes-Benz do Brasil S.A., we are presenting in annex a comparative analysis among the several existing
situations, that is:
• Situation 2................. use of plastic seals (in the color yellow) and stainless steel wire, experimentally in-
troduced as of Feb/99 and definitively as of June/99.
• Situation 3................. use of plastic seals, without steel wire, introduced by Robert Bosch Ltda. as of 01/
10/2000.
ATTENTION!
In practice the aggregates/components (*) can be found in several sealing types, due to the exhaustion of
stock:
(*) - Involved aggregates/components: fuel injection pump, tachograph interconnection electrical connec-
tor and tachograph impulses sensing contact connection, in the gear box.
It is also necessary to observe that one same aggregate (for example: injection pump) may present a mixed
sealing, that is, present simultaneously seals of lead with steel wire (situation S1), plastic seals with steel wire
(situation S2) and plastic seals without steel wire (situation S3). Such occurrence is due to the fact that in
case of possible interventions, if it is necessary to remake the sealing of some element, plastic seals with
steel wire are applied. The figures presented in the annex show very clearly the several types of existing seal-
ing.
On pretence of information, we present in succession the REGULATIONS which demand/mention the sealing:
- 3.18 Starting on the 1st of january, 1988, the mixture air-fuel in idling speed adjusting bolt and other ad-
justable items of engine gauging, which may considerably influence the emission, must be sealed by
the manufacturer or have inviolable limiters for the admissible adjusting band, and the vehicle must
obey the limits foreseen in this Regulation, in any point of these admissible bands, as well as of its
manual controls (accelerator, ignition point, throttler, etc.).
- 6 Marking
6.1 All points where the access could provoke measuring mistakes or reduction of the metrological safety
should be sealed.
- Involved component: tachograph interconnection electrical connector and tachograph impulses sensing
contact connection, in the gear box.
- Art. 3rd The inspection of the speed and time instataneous and unalterable recorder (tachograph) condi-
tion of operation, in the vehicles in which its use is obligatory, will be exercised by the National Sys-
tem of Traffic executive organs.
- II If the connections necessary to its correct operation are correctly connected and sealed and its compo-
nents without any modification
- Involved component: tachograph interconnection electrical connector and tachograph impulses sensing
contact connection, in the gear box.
