Pilots are authorized to deviate from their current ATC clearance to the extent necessary to
comply with the TCAS II resolution advisory (RA).
No change.
3.0 PROCEDURES
CAUTION:
Once a resolution advisory is issued, safe separation could be compromised if the
current Pitch Command (vertical speed) is changed, except as necessary to
comply with the resolution advisory. The intruder aircraft may be TCAS II
equipped; therefore TCAS II to TCAS II coordination may be in progress and any
change in Pitch Command other than issued but the resolution advisory may
decrease the effectiveness of both aircraft’s compliance with their resolution
advisories.
B The pilot must not initiate evasive maneuvers using information from the traffic
display only or on a traffic advisory (TA) only, without visually sighting the traffic.
These displays and advisories are intended only for assistance in visually locating
the traffic and lack the resolution necessary for use in evasive maneuvering.
However, while climbing or descending, modest changes in Pitch based on traffic
display information are not considered evasive maneuvering.
D. A TCAS self-test is to be conducted ONLY on the ground and after all EFIS, Air
Data, IRS systems, etc. are valid. The TCAS will not self test while airborne.
The TFC (traffic) pushbutton located on the Captain’s and First Officer’s EFIS
display control panels, control the display of traffic symbols on their associated
Navigation Display. When the EFIS control panel is selected to expanded of full
rose, MAP mode, expanded APP mode or expanded VOR mode each action of the
TFC pushbutton will change the display of traffic symbols on the ND from ON to
OFF. If an EFIS range greater than 40 nautical miles is selected, traffic symbols
will only be displayed to a maximum range of 40 nautical miles.
ON Traffic symbols are displayed on the ND and TFC is displayed in green on the
ND.
OFF Traffic symbols are not displayed on the ND. If a traffic advisory occurs
TRAFFIC is displayed in yellow on the ND.
The TCAS II traffic symbols and messages are displayed on the ND.
The resolution advisory commands are displayed on the PFD in the form of red
vertical position displays. The red vertical position display represents the vertical
flight path to avoid or maneuver away from.
TCAS II Resolution Advisories (RA) are inhibited below some radio altitudes. The chart
below gives the TCAS inhibits created by the radio altimeter and the associated RA status.
