5.0 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

No regular periodic maintenance is required for the antennas. Operation is “On
Condition” and replacement and/or repair is required only when a malfunction is
detected.
The inspection of the antenna installations, including wire routing, equipment security
and attachment is to be included with the aircraft manufacturers published inspection
procedures for “Antennas” located within the aircraft’s Maintenance Manuals and
Inspection Guides.

9.1 Antenna Inspection Intervals
GPS Antenna Antenna Connector Holes Installation Fastener Holes
INITIAL INSP 5,653 flights 4,179 flights
RECURRING INSP 5,653 flights 4,179 flights

UAT Antenna Antenna Connector Holes Installation Fastener Holes

INITIAL INSP 14,522 flights 7,175 flights
RECURRING INSP 14,522 flights 7,175 flights

9.2 Inspection Method

The connector and fastener holes should be inspected using eddy current
inspection techniques, according to the intervals outlined in section 9.1 of this
document. POD curves from the NTIAC “Nondestructive Evaluation Capabilities
Data Book” for lap splice joint specimens indicate that a 0.10” crack has a 90%
probability of detection using eddy current techniques. The threshold crack length
for each location indicates that a crack, if present, should be detectable at the time
of the threshold inspection. The inspection should include the following structural
details:

Inspect fastener holes in skin.
