After the needs have been identified, the intended learning outcomes are set.

Intended
learning should be smart, specific, measurable, attainable, with result, and with in the
frame of time.

Specific: refers to how concrete our goals are; the more specific, the better.
Measurable: you can’t know if you’ve reached our destination if we don’t have a clear
location. As a teacher, we have different tools and methods for measuring student
success. Grades, progress in classes and feedback forms are just two examples;

Achievable or attainable : it’s important to have a realistic approach while setting smart
learning objectives. Expecting all the students in our class to get straight passed is more
than likely an unattainable goal. A SMART objective can be accomplished in normal
circumstances when it comes to skills, resources and teaching context;

Relevant: naturally, we want our students to learn something useful from our course..
Hence, we must set relevant goals so oour students can learn the right things at the
right time and later apply the knowledge in real-life situations;

Time-bound: as a teacher, we are already used to deadlines. The same applies to our
students’ goals. To motivate our students and ensure a steady pace for the whole
learning process, the goals we establish have to be time-bound. However, when it
comes to personalized learning, the time it takes to master a skill can also be different
for each student

Next bullet is intended learning outcome should be doable, achievable, and desired.
We should take not of the word doable, achievable and desired when planning a lesson.
Last bullet is after establishing these, the curricularist should find out in planning the
ways of achieving desired outcomes. Understanding what our desired outcomes are is
the most important part of our goal–setting process. Desired outcomes are actions and
results, which you want your life to be like, or to have. To be able to get the achieving
the learning outcomes we should do the smart goal.

As they say, a good plan is half of the work done.
