According to Polat et al.

(2019), generation X teachers considered themselves as capable

and a know it all. Their strengths often rely towards their determination to learn. Although, they

are at advantage on the baby boomers that refuse innovation, they are lacking on the digital

aspect that Generation Y has to offer. Baby boomer boast on their persistence and experience in

teaching therefore allow them to transfer their knowledge and practices towards new generation.

Despite them giving up on changes and just sticking to their methods, they still hold certain

influence over the education system. Generation X on the other hand acts as a bridge that

connect two generations that are clearly experience a generational barrier due to the fact that

Generation Y is still inexperience in the field of education.

Generation X in the new normal receives barriers in order for them to fully take the

situation under control. Even though they are known to commit themselves in the lifelong

journey of education. They are completely vulnerable to challenges involving gadgets and

technology. Generation X teachers also have set of seminars and paperwork that are necessary

for their jobs. This part of the job already require continuous effort and attention however due to

the pandemic barriers including technological issue continue to make it hard for the teachers.

(Bugnos et al., 2022)

Classroom settings allow Generation X to establish learning as an independent and self

dictated activity. Despite the misconception that Generation X are not knowledgeable on the

modern technology, they show an affinity for technology and can be considered as reasonably

tech savvy. According to Palokova et al. (2019), generation x are hardworking to the point

whereas they are able to continue to connect towards a new generation. However, they are still

lacking on direct aspect as they tend to beat around the bush to give time for the students to think
for themselves, which often cause disturbance due to the fact that generation today prefer a fast-

paced environment.

According to Pasada et al.(2019), Generation Z are still in highschool and college whilst

the Generation X and Y are already practicing their experience in teaching. Generational gap is

inevitable in every aspect. The lack of experience made the newer generation incompetent whilst

the lack of knowledge in new things made the older generation left behind. In order for the

previous generation to catch up in the new trends in education. They need to learn to understand

the concept of new technologies and grasping the basic use of the technology is too challenging

for the old minds.

Technological integration in education is a debate topic that is already going around for a

few decades. Whether the education system is ready or the teachers and the students are ready

for the technological integration, actually practicing it is a different story. According to Dinc

(2019), multiple concerns are stuck with the idea of technological integration one of those

includes the curriculums that cannot be taught beforehand. Expenses in trying to integrate

technology isn’t a small change that can be easily earn. Therefore, budget is also an issue. This

imply that the sudden change despite the intentions, are still inadequate in combatting barriers

that prevent them in order to achieve the idea of innovation.

The used of the internet is inevitable in education. The technology people have today

continue to progress in a scary rate. The Competency Profile for the Digital Teacher are one of

the ways they wanted to approach new teachers. Digitalization is already practiced during the

pandemic therefore improving it is the only option. As to prepare for the future of education,

raising competency of digital teachers are necessary. Regardless of the generational gap between
teachers complementing each other competencies are what make them unique to each other.

(Ally,2019)

Generation X are often linked with the concept of not knowing much around technology.

However, they still experience growth in learning new technology. In order for them not to be

left out by newer generation it is inevitable for them to adapt in the new ways people use

technology. Technology itself provides practical and fast ways to do things, properly utilizing it

can increase the chance of aiding people’s life better. The Covid-19 pandemic made all of the

people incline to the technology in order to do things they do before. The pandemic can be

deemed as barrier that push people past their limits regardless of which generation they belong.

(Muslim et alm, 2020)

According to Pacheco( 2021), Covid-19 has rippling effects in the personal, ecological,

social spheres. The changes become evidently shown through the education as accommodating

every student requires a deep understanding that everything becomes complex amidst the

pandemic. A crippling truth is the student’s should be analyzed in different perspectives just to

cater their different needs. The inability of the teacher to adapt as well do not help in the changes

experienced by the students. To combat the inefficiency of the education system, online learning

become an approach to solve the problem.

Covid-19 has been associated as a wake up call for everyone. A lot of things are taken for

granted prior to the pandemic. The normal the people perceived are now changed by the

pandemic. Realizing that it is crucial to understand that with a wide range of study to analyze the

impact of pandemic, it is about time to assess the future. A new normal for education would not

be the same normal prior to the pandemic. (Bozkurt & Sharma, 2020) It is now widely known
that technology is crucial in improving the education. Efforts in improving the used of

technology in education are now given attention world wide.

Online learning is perceived as the best option for learning throughout the pandemic.

However, according to Adnan and Anwar (2020), online education will not produce the same

quality of education specially for underdeveloped countries. The lack of face to face interaction

towards the instructors is one of the highlighted reasons for the failure of the online learning

modality. The teacher’s competence along with their ability to adapt do help in the situation.

However, it is far from the required amount in order for the integration of technology to work.
