BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE
Ms. Ferrer is a single, female, 40+ year old Filipino minimum wage earner living alone in a 50 square meter studio unit, second floor of an
accessory dwelling unit made of concrete walls, wooden roof truss, and galvanized iron long span roof, at Sangandaan, Caloocan City. The
unit she stays with is owned by a relative who offered the space free of rent. She has been working for seven years as a support officer in a
career counseling family business led by women with doctorate degree. In the COVID-19 travel restrictions, the company where she worked
could not earn enough to retain her position. Ms. Ferrer became a COVID-19 displaced worker and extended to three (3) years, resulting to her
savings running out. Her roof is leaking, with holes in the roof. During rainy seasons, the floor is more than 10% wet.

OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of studying Ms. Ferrer's situation:
1. Assessment of Living Conditions of Ms. Ferrer
2. Formulate recommendations based on the findings to address Ms. Ferrer's immediate needs, such as addressing the
housing issues.

DATA PRESENTATION:
Case Study:
During a site visit, it was discovered that the roof of Ms. Ferrer's unit had several holes and leaked during rainy seasons. A consultant
confirmed that the roof required repair or replacement due to its age and wear and tear.
According to Equity Builders Roofing, a leaking roof can lead to structural damage, energy inefficiencies, mold growth, and fire hazards.
The Angi website lists several problems caused by a leaky roof, including damaged ceilings and attics, mold and mildew growth, and
increased energy consumption and utility bills. It is crucial to address a leaking roof promptly to prevent further damage and potential
health hazards.

DESIGN FOCUS:
Low-cost Roof Rehabilitation
The proposed low-cost housing roof rehabilitation project will focus on repairing and reinforcing the existing roof structure.
The project will also include the installation of a waterproofing membrane.
This project aims to minimize the cost of materials and labor while ensuring the safety and structural integrity of the roof.

CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS:
Low-cost housing roof rehabilitation is the process of remodelling or repairing residential building roofs in an economical manner.
When it comes to roof rehabilitation, there are numerous techniques that can be used. These include the patch-and-repair method, which
reduces the need to replace the entire roof; applying weather-resistant roof coatings that can lessen the absorption of heat damage; water-
proof sealants; and the use of recycled materials.
RECOMMENDATION:
Roof Assessment Repair.
Incorporate design principles for stability.
Waterproofing.
Roofing design recommendation: Shed-type roof.
Material recommendation: Ashpalt shingle roof and long span metal roofing sheets.
