Subject Title: Fire Protection and Arson Investigation Subject Code: CDI 6 Pre-requisite: CDI 1

Learning Hours Per Week: 3 hrs. Contact Hours Per week: 2 hrs. Total Learning Hours: 54 hrs.

Credit Units: 3 Units

Goal of the College of Criminal Justice Education:

1. Develop a God fearing and service-oriented graduates.


2. Foster the values of leadership, integrity, accountability, and responsibility while serving their fellowmen,
community, and country.
3. Prepare the students on different qualifying examinations for their dream jobs.
4. Prepare the students in crime prevention, law enforcement, scientific crime detection and correctional
administration; and
5. Encourage research and inquiry on nature, causes, treatment or punishment of criminal behavior and how criminal
agencies respond to crime, criminals, and victim.

Program Learning Outcome

The graduate should be able to:

1. Know the concept and characteristics of applicable criminal penal laws, criminal procedure, and evidence.
2. Define felonies and determine stages of execution as well as the corresponding penalty.
3. Determine circumstances affecting criminal liability and identifying persons liable for felonies.
4. Know the concept of penalties and extinction and concept of criminal and civil liabilities.
5. Apply the rules on criminal procedure, the rules on evidence and presentation of evidence.
6. Recognize the need for an ability to engage in life-long learning and practices the profession with high ethical and
moral standards.

7. Function on multidisciplinary teams and manifest growth in spiritual, social, and professional aspects.
8. Identify, formulate, and solve issues in the line of work with high ethical and moral standards.
9. Recognize the need for an ability to engage in life-long learning and practices the profession with high ethical and
moral standards.
10. Demonstrate management and leadership skills on the chosen profession.
11. Apply legal principles, concepts and rules that demonstrates high level of proficiency in the licensure and
examinations and in the performance of their profession.

projects and in multidisciplinary environments that manifest growth in spiritual, social, cultural and professional
aspects.

Course Description:

The course presents the creation of the Bureau of Fire Protection, its mandate, powers, and functions. It also covers the
understanding of the behavior, characteristics, and chemistry of fire. It involved fire safety and protection, including the
conduct of arson investigation.

Course Learning Outcome:

After completing this course, the student must be able to:

1. Explain the underlying concepts and principles of fire technology in relation to public safety.

2. Discuss the legal mandates implemented by the Bureau of Fire Protection in terms of fire safety enforcement, and
arson investigation.

3. Cite and explain the legal requirements in building and development of arson case.

4. Discuss the salient features of P.D. No. 1096 as a safeguard for the victim’s rights and welfare.

5. Apply knowledge of criminalistics in the fulfilment of the objectives of arson investigation.

6. Apply the Granby Colleges of Science and Technology infused values and Core Values in the course of learning.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND CLASS POLICY

Each student is required to:

1. Participate in class discussions and recitations.


2. Take the examination during the set schedule and present the examination permit.
3. Submit assignments and projects on time.
4. Attend at least 80% of the total class hour in a semester and 20% for allowed absences. For a 3-unit subject
which is equivalent to 54 hours, students are only allowed to have maximum absence of 9 hours within a
semester. Failure to do so will have a “DROPPED” grade in the subject if absences is without a valid reason.
