Experiment steps:
• Choose and mount the selected geometry.
• Set the heater to the required heat and power. Wait till steady
state is achieved.
• Turn on the fan to the needed speed (in case of forced only).
Record following readings from the operation panel:
O Inlet temperature
O Air flow rate
O Outlet temperature
• Use following equations to calculate required quantities:
calculate average temperature from equations:

o using the following tables get cp and density

O since air density, velocity and path cross section area are known we can calculate
mass flow rate from the following equation:

O we can calculate heat flux using this equation:

Where:

O efficiency can be calculate using the following equation:

O construct a table containing readings and results.

Readings from lab:

Free Forced
Tin 20.5℃ 21.3℃
Tout 23.5℃ 23.4℃
T1 30.5℃ 24℃
T2 32℃ 25℃
V 0.2 m/s 1.17 m/s
P 164 watt 164 watt

For free:
Tavg = (20.5+23.5)/2 = 22 ℃
From tables:
Density = 1.18 kg/m3
Cp = 1.0071 kj/kg.k
Mass flow rate =0.2*1.18*0.018 =4.248*10-3 kg/s
Heat flux = 4.248*10-3 * 1.0071 *103 * (23.5-20.5) = 12.83 watt
Efficiency = (12.83 / 164) *100 = 7.82 %
For forced:
Tavg = (21.3+23.4)/2 = 22.35 ℃
From tables:
Density = 1.178 kg/m3
Cp = 1.0074 kj/kg.k
Mass flow rate =1.17*1.178*0.018 =24.8*10-3 kg/s
Heat flux = 24.8*10-3 * 1.0074 *103 * (23.4-21.3) = 52.465 watt
Efficiency = (52.465 / 164) *100 = 31.99 %
